Ballet Black’s return to Exeter Northcott sees them collaborating with three bold and inventive choreographers to present an irresistible trilogy of narrative and abstract dance. As the centrepiece, Christopher Hamspson’s Storyville is the bittersweet fable of Nola, a farm girl who falls prey to unscrupulous characters and wordly desires in 1920s New Orleans, set to the haunting music of Kurt Weill.
The programme also includes two newly devised pieces; To Begin, Begin by Christopher Marney, fresh from McQueen, and Cristaux, a duet by Arthur Pita, who previously choreographed a hit...
Aerial circus company Ockham’s Razor presents its new full length show, Tipping Point. Set in the round, the action veers from catastrophe to mastery as five performers transform simple five-metre metal poles into a rich landscape of images. Poles are balanced on fingertips, hung from the roof, lashed, climbed, swung from and walked along, they become forests, cross-roads and pendulums. The performers must decide whether to rail against the chaos, struggling to exert order on a disordered world, or ride it out, allowing life to tilt towards the tipping point.

Everything about it suggests a contented spirit of its youthful creator. Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.3 has a beguiling purity of melody and timbre, emphasizing the golden tone of the solo instrument supported by an understated accompaniment. This jewel-like serenade is one of Mozart’s most...
