University hosts vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations

Traditional dragon dancing, distinctive culinary delights, martial arts demonstrations and spectacular fireworks are just some of the colourful festivities planned to welcome in the Year of the Rooster at the University of Exeter.

More than 2,500 local residents, staff and students are expected to attend this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations on Saturday 11 February at the University’s Streatham Campus.

Fresh appeal over Bradninch hit and run

The family of an injured man who was involved in a serious collision on Saturday 11 June 2016 have received anonymous information about the collision.

Police would now like to trace the person who provided the family with this anonymous information.

Police were notified just after 11.30pm on Saturday 11June 2016 Police to reports of a hit and run road traffic collision on West End Road, Bradninch.

More than half a million people are expected to watch and count their garden birds for this year’s Big Garden Birdwatch, organised by the RSPB.

The world’s largest garden wildlife survey (now in its 38th year!) takes place on the 28th, 29th and 30th January 2017. In response to popular demand, this will be the first time ever that the Birdwatch will take place over three days. This time round, Monday is included, to give workers the opportunity to take a screen break and participate from their office gardens.

Devon celebrates 50,000th Bikeability trainee

Bikeability cycle training in Devon has reached a major milestone, with 50,000 children now having taken part in the scheme.

Bow Primary School pupil Harry Pitman is the 50,000th Bikeability trainee in the county, and to mark the occasion Devon County Council, which provides the training, presented him with a special certificate and a Bike Shed voucher.

Schoolchildren who take part in Bikeability are equipped with skills to help them deal confidently with traffic on short journeys, such as cycling to school.

Devon Wildlife Trust nominated for top BBC Countryfile award

Local conservation charity Devon Wildlife Trust could be in line for a prestigious honour for its work with beavers.

The Trust has been nominated jointly with a similar project in Scotland in the ‘Wildlife Success of the Year’ category of the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2017.

Appeal after racially aggravated incident in Exeter

Police are appealing for witnesses following a racially aggravated incident towards a member of staff at a takeaway in Exeter.

The incident took place on the 21st of December between 7-7:20pm at the KFC on Sidwell Street. It is alleged that a customer was racially abusive to a female member of staff.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of using racially aggravating language that could cause alarm or distress, and has been bailed until the 24th of January pending further enquiries.
