Newtown Community’s AGM is taking place at the community hut in Belmont Park on Monday 27 February. Starting at 7.30pm the meeting will inform residents of the latest proposals for ‘The Vision’, the project to have a new community building to replace the existing hut.

This is the proposed layout for the new hut which will be approximately 60% bigger than the current hut and include a large room (twice the size of one of the current rooms) and a second room to allow a small group space or separate cafe area. It will include up to date insulation, underfloor heating and PV panels too...

Triple Success for Exeter Cathedral School Siblings

A trio of siblings from Exeter Cathedral School has each been awarded a place in the prestigious National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain.

The Daniel-Greenhalgh siblings - Esme (y7), Theo (y6) and Sabina (y5) - have all won a place in various sections of the elite GB orchestra for children. Esme and Sabina are both violinists, and Theo plays the trombone, and the three of them also sing together as Choristers in Exeter Cathedral Choir. The trio have an older sister who was also a pupil at ECS and a cathedral chorister, and they say that they are delighted to have been given...

Taxing demands on Citizens Advice Exeter

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has released its latest advice trend figures.

These show a 10% increase in enquiries from clients about welfare benefits and tax credits, compared to the same period in 2015.

Citizens Advice Exeter has helped 5,972 people with advice and information across all enquiry areas since 1 April 2016.

X Factor winner joins Olly Murs at Powderham concert

Louisa Johnson, the youngest ever winner of the X Factor, has been named as special guest at pop superstar Olly Murs’ outdoor concert at historic Powderham Castle, near Exeter on Saturday, July 29.

The 19-year-old starlet won the 2015 series of the TV talent show at the age of 17 with Simon Cowell calling her ‘the best singer he had ever seen on the show’.

She has since had hits with the songs Forever Young and So Good and featured on the Clean Bandit top five single Tears.

A heady dose of elation and a real sense of camaraderie and achievement floats through the Event Exeter office this morning as the team have done it again.

Following the success of winning Gold in the Devon Tourism Awards hosted in one of Event Exeter’s own venues, the University’s Great Hall in November, the team has gone on to win silver in the Venue and Business Tourism category of the South West Tourism Awards held in Bristol last night.

Antique jewellery taken in Exmouth burglary

Police seeking witnesses after a large amount of jewellery was taken from an Exmouth home.

Offenders got inside the property in Valley Way sometime between 10.30am on Tuesday 24 January and 12.30pm on Thursday 26 January.

They made an untidy search of the premises before stealing around 40 items of jewellery including some antique items of huge sentimental value.

Among the items stolen were a 100-year-old 18ct gold ring with diamonds and an 18ct pearl and amethyst ring which is around 70-years-old, plus a very old garnet bracelet and set of garnet earrings.
