REVIEW: A Night of Dirty Dancing – The Ultimate Tribute Show

As a massive fan of the 1987 classic film Dirty Dancing, featuring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, I was thrilled to be asked to attend A Night of Dirty Dancing – The Ultimate Tribute Show, at the Exmouth Pavilion on Friday 6th October.

For those who don’t know (have you been under a rock?!) Dirty Dancing is a coming of age story about Baby (Frances Houseman) who becomes an incredible dancer and meets the man of her dreams (Johnny Castle) whilst holidaying at a family resort with her family.

Hospice is 'the happiest place I've ever worked'

Judith Harris-Deans from Exeter has been volunteering for local charity Hospiscare for the last six years, and describes it as “the happiest place I’ve ever worked.” Since 2012 Judith has been popping into Searle House in Exeter to support the fundraising team with donations administration.

Judith described her typical day: “I usually come in once a week, but it’s a flexible arrangement so if I can’t make it in it’s never a problem, I just let them know beforehand. Likewise, sometimes I will come in much more often during busy times, like Christmas, when the team needs extra help....

Exeter and Teignbridge councils are stepping up their homelessness support with a new campaign aimed at highlighting all the good work that goes on in the area and raising awareness of the issue.

The two councils have teamed up to launch Homelessness Awareness Week which runs from 9 to 13 October. The social media campaign is focused around a theme of help.

Traffic signal replacement works in Exeter

Work to replace traffic signals at a junction in Exeter will get underway on Monday (9 October).

Essential maintenance is needed on the signals at the junction of Pennsylvannia Road, Union Road and Prince of Wales Road in Exeter. The traffic signals, poles and electrics are at the end of their serviceable lives and will be replaced, and repairs will also be carried out to cable ducting. Overnight closures planned on Bridge Road in Exeter

Night time closures will be in place on Bridge Road in Exeter over four evenings next week.

The road will be closed overnight from 8:30pm to 5:30am on Monday night (9 October). It will then be closed from 10pm to 5:30am on the evenings of Tuesday (10 October), Wednesday (11 October) and Thursday (12 October). All four lanes will be open during the daytime. Exeter couple’s team effort helps Hospiscare re-cycle

Alphington retirees Peter and Mary Collins began volunteering at the Hospiscare Warehouse Shop on Trusham Road when it very first opened in 2012. Every Friday, Peter would repair donated furniture ready for selling in the shops and Mary sorted bags of clothes, sizing them, putting them on hangers then onto racks for distribution.

A unique collection of rarely seen photographs showing stars such as Judy Garland and Laurence Olivier making some of British Cinema’s most-loved films can be seen for the first time.

The photographs show actors – also including Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers – on set preparing for shooting or relaxing between takes. They capture behind the scenes in Judy Garland’s last film, child stars rehearsing while making Oliver! and the cast of Richard III sweltering in full armour while shooting in Spain.

Tickets still available for Exeter’s Lost Weekend Festival of Music, Art, Tech and Ideas

Thousands of people are expected to attend Exeter’s newest festival this weekend with the launch of Lost Weekend in the city.

And there’s still time to buy last minute tickets for the event.
