Over 500 items of food have been donated by Exeter businesses to support local families this Christmas. The generous companies made the donations in aid of the Exeter Foodbank at an event staged by NatWest at the city’s Cookery School recently. Last year more than 5,500 people, including 1,610 children, needed to use the foodbank, which was launched in 2008 to help people affected by financial crisis. One of East Devon District Council’s most popular nature reserves, Seaton Wetlands, has earned well deserved recognition as one of Devon’s top tourist attractions, by winning a Bronze award at the prestigious Devon Tourism Awards, held at Highbullen Hotel Golf & Country Club in North Devon.
Seaton Wetlands picked up its Bronze award in the Small Attraction of the Year category, alongside fellow Bronze winner Torre Abbey Museum, while Quince Honey Farm won Silver and Stuart Line Cruises were awarded Gold.

Colyton Grammar School in Devon is one of 16 selective grammar schools in the country to secure a share of a £50 million fund from the Department of Education to support better access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The school has received £490,000 to which it has added its own funds, and money from other external sources of funding, to create a total pot of almost £612,000. Network Rail has given approval for Phase 3 of East Devon District Council’s flood alleviation scheme in Feniton, which consists of laying a one metre diameter culvert beneath the railway line.
This is the first part of the services it is providing to East Devon, which will help complete the project. A suitable 52 hour window in October 2019 within which the new culvert can be placed under the railway has now been identified by Network Rail. This fits in with other works planned by the railway around that time.

Instead of waiting for criminals to steal, Exeter Businesses Against Crime (EBAC) are taking a proactive approach by letting thieves know ‘We’re Watching you’, through a number of eye-catching posters going up around the city.

South coast-based Hendy Group – which has its Hendy Car Store in Exeter as well as its Hendy Honda and Hendy Iveco dealerships - has been named Used Car Dealership of the Year in a key national award.
