£2k raised for charity in eye-catching McDonald's Exeter refurbishment

McDonald’s Marsh Barton officially reopened on 3 February following an extensive refurbishment.

The new restaurant boasts all the latest innovations from McDonald’s, including a side-by-side drive thru and improved kitchen facilities.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Trish Oliver and the local franchisee and owner, David Shawyer.

David generously donated £1 for every transaction made on opening day to the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Trish Oliver’s charity ‘Inclusive Exeter’.

Exeter Valley Park set for upgrade

A Devon-based conservation charity is set to make ‘substantial’ improvements to one of Exeter’s most beautiful green spaces.

Barley Valley Park – one of six Valley Parks in Exeter managed by Devon Wildlife Trust on behalf of their owners, Exeter City Council – will undergo a series of improvements this spring to improve access for local people and other visitors.

Debbie Coles is a nursing degree apprentice from Exeter studying at the University of Plymouth’s Exeter School of Nursing. Joining the NHS in 2003, she worked her way up through diplomas and, after 10 years as an assistant practitioner, applied for the registered nurse degree apprenticeship via Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has authorised Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine for use in the UK.

This follows rigorous clinical trials supported by National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and a thorough analysis of the data by experts at the MHRA, which has concluded that the vaccine has met its strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness.

Staff and residents at Cumberland Grange in Exeter welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese cultures and traditions, residents enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year thanks to John, Tesco’s Community Champion. John gave a fascinating talk followed by serving up a variety of different Chinese foods.

250,000 adults in the South West whose mental health got worse during the pandemic have not spoken to anyone about it

Nearly one in five adults surveyed in the South West (17 per cent) who say their mental health got worse during the pandemic haven’t spoken to anyone about it during this time – equivalent to around 250,000 people – according to research published today. More than a third (38 per cent) of all respondents in the South West reported a worsening in their mental health during the pandemic. Of those who have been concerned about the mental health of someone they care about, almost one in five (19 per cent) say they haven’t tried to talk to them about it.

A husband-and wife emergency medicine doctor team have landed in the Carribean after rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic as the first ever married couple to participate in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (TWAC).
