Devon’s primary schools have achieved a significant improvement in this year’s Key Stage 2 SATs tests for 11-year-olds.
The county’s combined figure for English and maths was up six per cent on last year and Devon schools continue to out-perform results nationally and regionally.
The percentage of pupils achieving the benchmark Level 4 or above in English and maths in Devon was 82 per cent in 2012 – up six points on last year’s county results.
And the Devon figure was three points ahead of the national figure for the two subjects combined at 79 per cent and ahead of...

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure (and I do mean pleasure) of not one, not two, but three Christmas performances to watch in one day. All very different, of course, but in their own way each one of them was special and warmed my heart. The first was at Pip-Kins Day Nursery, Barnfield Hill to watch our three-year-old (and three quarters) son taking part in a rousing post-lunch performance of 'Jingle Bells', 'When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney' and 'Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star'. Led by an enthusiastic Rosemary, Pat and Eileen, who visit the nursery on a regular basis for sing-alongs,...
Exeter International Airport has reminded passengers travelling to friends and relatives for the festive period that Christmas crackers are not permitted in hand/cabin baggage.
If the crackers are in a sealed box (original packaging, cellophane not broken) they may travel in hold (checked-in) baggage. However, party poppers are not permitted in hand or hold baggage.
There are no hand (cabin) baggage restrictions on Christmas cakes but passengers should be aware of the DfT 'Liquids' regulations and airline hand (cabin) baggage limits.

In fact, Stagecoach are already getting letters and Facebook comments from happy customers who are saying how much he's cheered their day up with one mum commenting "It made my children's day and they haven’t stopped talking about...

The switch on of the Christmas tree – on top of the climbing tower – will be at 12 noon on Monday, 17th December.

The Trust is committed to delivering the Right Care in the Right Place at the Right Time, however, not all of the calls we receive warrant an ambulance response and the 999 ambulance service should only be used for emergency situations....
