Tackling homelessness and rough sleeping in Exeter

Tackling homelessness and rough sleeping in Exeter is a top priority, according to the City Council.

Exeter City Council works hard to support those who don't have a 'roof over their head' and Cllr Rob Hannaford, Lead Councillor for Housing and Community Involvement said that there was always emergency accommodation available to those that found themselves facing a night on the streets.

"Our latest research has shown that there are around 30 people rough sleeping in the city. That is 30 too many and we are constantly striving to reduce these figures and ensure that everyone...

Roman settlement remains discovered near Kingskerswell

Archaeologists carrying out investigations in advance of the construction of the South Devon Link Road, near Kingskerswell, Devon, have uncovered the remains of a 2000 year old Roman settlement and a stone-constructed 800 year old medieval building.

The Roman settlement appears to have comprised a large rectangular ditched enclosure, which appears to have been modified three times, probably as a result of ever-increasing wealth and the construction of more elaborate buildings inside the enclosure.

While no evidence for a building survives due to subsequent quarrying, some...

Police urge public to stay safe in bad weather

Devon and Cornwall Police are warning members of the public not to put themselves in danger and to keep away from flood relief, rivers, and streams as poor weather is predicted.

The advice comes after a man was pulled from a flood relief channel by a police officer and a member of the public in Exeter at around 3.00 a.m. on Saturday 15 December 2012. Fortunately, the channel was fairly empty with water only a couple of feet deep but the walls were 10 to 12 feet high making escape almost impossible.

The man was then taken to hospital by ambulance suffering with the effects...

Children have extra reason to celebrate this Christmas with the re-opening of a children's play area.

The play space is tucked away off Quarry Park Road in the Broadfields area, and is heavily used by many pupils from Walter Daw Primary School which is located immediately adjacent to the site.

Although well used, the site was in need of some attention as most of the play equipment was either showing its age, or had already reached the end of its useful life and been removed.

The refurbishment has seen the installation of a new multi-play unit providing opportunities...

The RD&E is experiencing an increase in patients admitted with diarrhoea and/or vomiting caused by the norovirus. Norovirus is widespread in the local community at the moment. Norovirus spreads from person to person extremely easily and causes outbreaks in hospital which result in wards being closed to further admissions. There are now several wards affected.

In order to protect both our patients and visitors we need to restrict the number of people who visit patients. On all of our wards (with the exceptions of ITU, Bramble Unit, Maternity and Neonatal Unit where the usual...
