With the New Year underway, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are asking people to make one of their resolutions in 2013 to check that their smoke alarms are up to date and are in the right place to protect their home.
A spokesperson said "Many people see January as an opportunity for a fresh start, and safety should be no exception. So this month we are encouraging everyone to make sure they have enough working smoke alarms in their home."
A smoke alarm can give someone the few extra seconds they need to escape in a fire. But while the majority of homes across...
After yet another day of searching for Jordan Cobb, who was last seen jumping from Torpoint Ferry on New Year's Eve, there appears to be no sign of the missing boy.
From 10am, three RNLI Lifeboats and two MoD launches undertook searches in the area north of the Breakwater in Plymouth Sound. According to National Trust wildlife experts, unsettled, unpredictable and at times chaotic weather has meant that last year was a particularly challenging one for wildlife.
Whilst birds and insects have struggled, slugs and orchids have done well throughout Britain in our special places.
Matthew Oates, Naturalist at the Trust, said: "This has been a highly polarised year, with wildlife in the places we look after doing either remarkably well or incredibly badly.
"In general, plants and slugs were the big winners and insects the big losers. But even in this wet...
The title role in Exeter’s own professional pantomime Aladdin, running at Exeter Corn Exchange until 6th January, is taken by sixteen year old Will Trafford in his first professional stage outing.
Given that his father is the writer, producer and director of the show you might say it was inevitable that Will would get a starring role, but there's no denying Will's pedigree, and he had to prove himself before getting the part.
Writing in the Express & Echo, reviewer Anita Merritt said of Will’s performance: “He dazzled during his dance scenes and looks destined...
