County’s new flagship ‘Heritage Centre’ to officially open

Devon County Council’s new ‘Heritage Centre’ will be officially opened next week by Council Chairman Jerry Brook.

The flagship centre was created as part of a drive to modernise the Council’s heritage service, and sees the Westcountry Studies Library and the Exeter branch of the Devon Record Office conveniently brought together under one roof for the first time.

James Baker from Cockwood, Exeter, has reached the final in a nationwide competition launched by Farmers Weekly to find the UK’s brightest farming talent.

A new partnership between Exeter Phoenix and The University of Exeter’s Centre for Additive Layer Manufacturing (CALM) has enabled 30 artists to explore the possibilities offered by 3D printing. Inaugural St Thomas Community Festival planned for 2013

The inaugural St Thomas Community Festival will take place in and around St Thomas Pleasure Grounds on Saturday 14th September 2013. The festival is the brainchild of the recently formed St Thomas Community Association (STCA) and is intended to be a celebration of the St Thomas area as a vibrant, diverse and exciting part of the city.

The organisers hope that the event will build community cohesion, bringing together residents of all ages and backgrounds in a celebration of the variety of sporting, creative and musical talents that flourish in the area.

Exeter theatre takes award-winning Bunnies to London

The Bike Shed Theatre in Exeter has been awarded Arts Council funding to tour to Bristol, Salisbury and London.

The award-winning play Bunnies – which will tour from the end of October – was written specially for the Bike Shed by young playwright Kieran Lynn. It was first performed in the Theatre last year and received a Peter Brook Empty Space Award.

The tour will help the Bike Shed develop links with other venues and national companies, raising their profile across the country.
