Hard work leads to improvements at Tiverton primary

Two years of hard work has led to considerable improvements at a Tiverton primary school, according to education inspectors.

They say action taken by school leaders at Bolham Primary has promoted better teaching and led to improving progress.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce welcomed guest speaker, local Labour MP Ben Bradshaw to its monthly Networking Lunch, which this month was held at The Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) on Tuesday 23 July with over 100 members and guests attending.

An exciting family community festival is being held by East Devon District Council in Beer on Monday 29 July.

The event will be held at from 10am to 1pm. Children can enjoy face painting, circus skills, a bouncy castle and many other attractions – all for free!

Heavitree paddling pools to close on Thursday for essential maintenance

Exeter City Council has announced that Heavitree Paddling Pools will be closed for the day tomorrow (25 July) to allow for the water to be changed.

But fear not, as the pools should be back in action on Friday (26 July), ready for the busy summer period.

The pools have seen thousands of users over the last few weeks during the exceptionally hot weather. The high number of users has resulted in a build up of sun tan lotion on the sides of the pools.

A new acquisition to the museum’s collection is a fossil footprint called a Cheirothere. It was found near Sidmouth in the Otter Sandstone (Triassic about 240 million years ago) and precedes the dinosaurs.The print and some less well preserved examples were discovered by Bob Coram of Swanage who made the donation to the RAMM.

Cheirotheres have been known from the Triassic rocks of the Midlands but this is the first recorded occurrence in the Triassic rocks of southern England.

Police puppies meet their new walkers

The first litter of puppies bred in-house by Devon and Cornwall Police will meet their new puppy walkers on Thursday 25 July.

A puppy walker takes a puppy to live with them for 12 to 18 months for socialising and early training, in preparation for the puppy entering its police training. Each puppy has undertaken a short series of tests to find out if they were suitable for police dog training and we are delighted to announce that all seven puppies have passed their suitability tests with flying colours.
