Devon clears up after storm

Highways teams across the county have been busy clearing up after last night’s severe winds and heavy rain, which have left fallen trees and debris across the county's road network.

So far, 81 fallen trees have been reported, including on many of the major A roads. Devon and Cornwall Police have received more than 200 calls about damages caused by the weather..

Several areas have also become flooded as a result of the heavy rain. The Environment Agency has issued 9 flood warnings in the South West region with warnings to those on the River Teign and Exe to prepare a flood...

Exeter gets festive with Christmas lights switch-on in Princesshay

Princesshay will host the city centre’s Christmas lights switch-on event on Thursday 21st November 2013 from 4pm – 8pm.

The Christmas lights ceremony will see Rob Baxter, Exeter Chiefs Head Coach; Paul Tisdale, Manager of Exeter City Football Club and members of the Lympstone Military Wives Choir taking centre stage to jointly switch on the city centre’s Christmas lights at 6.30pm. Joining them on stage will be the Lord Mayor of Exeter.

Pioneering Green Unit Launches in Exeter

Exeter communities are set to benefit from an initiative by the University of Exeter Students’ Guild using a £300,000 funding boost from the NUS (National Union of Students) Student Green Fund project.

The Students’ Green Unit was formally launched at the University of Exeter’s Forum Building on Streatham campus on Friday 25 October with representatives in attendance from diverse organisations such as the Met Office, Exeter City Council, Devon County Council and the RSPB.

A unique piece of art by TV favourite Kirstie Allsopp is a star lot in a charity auction that’s raising money for gorilla conservation.

The presenter, interior designer, crafts and property expert designed a gorilla as part of Paignton Zoo’s Great Gorillas Project.

The project, celebrating Paignton Zoo’s 90th birthday, put 30 life-size model gorillas around Exeter and the English Riviera in a unique free art trail.

Now, most of them will be auctioned for charity on Wednesday 6 November.

A woman from Woodbury near Exeter who lost her husband to a brain tumour one year ago has visited local coffee shop Coffee#1 in Princesshay Shopping Centre, Exeter, to say a big thank you to staff who are currently helping raise funds for Hammer Out, the South West’s only brain tumour charity, through the sale of charity gingerbread men.
