Tudor Christmas at St Nicholas Priory

Promenade drama performance: Shakespeare with a Punch

Join the University of Exeter’s Drama Department outside the Elizabethan Guildhall in Exeter High Street at 5.30pm and parade down to St Nicholas Priory for a glass of punch and promenade drama performances between 6pm and 7pm.

Meet the fools, clowns and ordinary folk of Shakespeare’s plays in comic scenes and festive silliness featuring emerging artists from the MA Staging Shakespeare course.

Valerie Barden: Compositions in oil paint

Valerie Barden was born in Buckinghamshire in 1938; she studied at Yeovil College of Art and later Art History with the Open University. She lives in Devon with her husband Robert Organ. Barden has been exhibiting professionally since 1994; Piers Feetham Gallery, London; Salisbury Playhouse; Town Mill, Lyme Regis and the Brewhouse, Taunton. Her work is held in the Bridgeman Art Library.

These paintings fit into the genre known as paintings of 'modern life' first explored at the end of the C19th and beginning of the C20th and which has engaged many artists since.

19-year-old from Exeter killed in car crash

A 19-year-old man from Exeter has died in a car crash in Wiltshire.

The man, who has not been named, was a passenger in a car which hit the curb and overturned before colliding with a tree at around 18:30 yesterday evening (Monday 11 November).

The driver, a man from the Peterborough area, was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with serious head injuries.

The 19 year-old died at the scene just outside of Tidworth

Wiltshire Police closed the road to investigate and more details are expected once the families have been informed.

Dawlish flood prevention work begins

De-silting work is about to start on Dawlish Brook to help reduce future flooding, protect the town centre, residents and businesses and its world-famous waterfowl.

Work is scheduled to start on today (12 November) and is set to last two weeks.

Signs have been put up at the waterfowl warden’s building and the Tourist Information Centre to tell people what is happening.
