Exeter YMCA is excited to announce the return of its annual Santa Abseil charity fundraiser. On 7th December 2013 dozens of participants, dressed as Santa, will abseil 100ft down Renslade House, a 10-storey office provider in central Exeter.

Every penny raised will go towards Exeter YMCA’s vital work of providing housing and support to homeless young people from Exeter and Devon. Several generous local businesses have donated prizes for this year’s abseil, which can be won by participants.

Exmouth house fire

Firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from a house in Durham close in Exmouth. Initially 2 local crews from Exmouth were sent to this incident but when they arrived they found the ground floor of the property engulfed in flames and called for further support. Crews got to work fighting the fire using 2 sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet awaiting the arrival of the third appliance. Children in Need Office Olympic Gold at Basepoint Exeter

Basepoint Exeter Licensees enjoyed a fun day of competitions and games all in aid of Children in Need on Friday. The Breakout area at the Business Centre was turned into an Olympic Stadium and Licensees were treated to Coffee and Cakes before the games began.

InStep Devon appeal for local leaders

Local running network InStep Devon has ambitions to get more people jogging and running in Exeter, East Devon and Mid Devon – and is looking for local leaders to help.

County Sports Partnership Active Devon has appointed InStep to coordinate the Beginner Runner Programme across the area. This is the latest phase of a Run England initiative whichwhich aims to get more people actively participating in the sport.

E.ON seeking to fund local causes

E.ON is calling for members of the public to nominate causes in Exeter to win funding to run projects.

Local community centres which need to improve their energy efficiency and schools or charities looking to add a spark to the area through energy education, can all apply for funding.

Applications for the E.ON Energy Action Fund can be submitted for a range of energy related improvements and activities, from appliances and insulation to educational events. Priority will be given to projects focused on reducing energy use and renewable energy.

Government rejects £24.1m from G4S

The government has rejected an offer of £24.1m, the private security group G4S has claimed it owes after over-charging for the tagging of offenders.

It is thought that the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has turned down the payment whilst working with G4S to establish how much the company owes the Government.

An internal review by G4S concluded that the overcharging was not due to “dishonesty or criminal conduct.
