Bradfords renews partnership with Exeter Chiefs

Bradfords Building Supplies has extended its partnership with the Exeter Chiefs for the 2022/2023 season, including its under-8s tag rugby festival.

As a Key Club Partner, Bradfords will continue its support of the Exeter Chiefs women’s team and its player sponsorship for Chiefs and England international, Henry Slade, as well as Chiefs forward and Dutch international, Linde Van Der Velden.

The Bradfords Community Cup – the major regional tag rugby festival for under-8s held at Sandy Park – continues to form an integral part of the agreement.

The month of September has been dedicated to celebrating ‘Local Living’ by InExeter, the Business Improvement District for Exeter.

The idea behind Local Living Month is celebrating all that is great about Exeter, the independent businesses, buying things local to support businesses as well as being more sustainable and championing local organisations. The full event lineup includes the popular Fore Street Flea in the West Quarter as well as events on Sidwell Street in Eastgate and on South Street for the Cathedral Quarter.

Perfectly timed in the middle of a heatwave, staff and residents at Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter had a fantastic time celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 17, a brilliant excuse to sample lots of cooling treats.

Overseen by Activities Co-Ordinator Gosia, staff and residents experimented with many different types of toppings and flavour combinations, from the exotic, to the alcoholic, and back to the traditional – sorbets, frozen yoghurt and good old dairy-based ice cream, they tasted and savoured them all.

The University of Exeter’s grounds across three campuses have been ranked among the best parks and green spaces in the country.

The gardens and grounds at the University’s Streatham , St. Luke’s and Penryn campuses are some of the record number of parks and green spaces receiving the Green Flag Award this year as they are recognised as the most beautiful and botanically interesting of any UK university.

Two wildlife charities are asking members of the public to link their gardens this summer in a bid to help hedgehogs and find ‘Britain’s Biggest Hedgehog Street’.

Marsh Barton Railway Station taking shape

Devon’s newest railway station at Marsh Barton, in Exeter, is taking shape as work continues at pace this summer.

The station, located on the eastern edge of Marsh Barton near the Energy from Waste plant, is being developed by GRAHAM on behalf of Devon County Council, and is due to open this winter.

Partners involved in the development of the new station at Marsh Barton were recently invited to visit the site to see how work is progressing.

There was cause for celebration last week as the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Yolanda Henson, officially opened the new Show Suite at Pym Court – the latest development from the leading manager and developer of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone.

Free cycling festivals for the whole family this summer

Exeter and Cranbrook residents looking for something to do this summer are in for a treat thanks to a series of free cycling festivals taking place in the city during the school holidays.

There are six events taking place throughout the summer, each one in a different location across the city and Cranbrook and all completely free for the whole family.

The events have been developed by Live and Move – the Sport England Local Delivery Programme running in Exeter and Cranbrook that aims to encourage residents to move more in their everyday lives – and Active Devon.

Youth Hub Devon to host training and employment event

School leavers will have the opportunity to find out about the range of training and employment options available to them at a special event next month.

Youth Hub Devon , based in Dix’s Field in Exeter city centre, will host the event from 11am - 3.30pm on Wednesday 3 August and Youth Hub Advisors will be on hand for appointments until 6.30pm.

School leavers and young people aged 16-24 years old will be able to speak to employers, training providers and support services at the event. Parents and carers are also welcome to attend.
