The four local wood engravers will be meeting visitors of the museum at 2pm.

Visitors to Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) will be able to enjoy a drink with the artists and get a 5% discount on all artists’ gallery sales when an exhibition opens on Saturday 7th December.

Microplastics make marine worms sick

Tiny bits of plastic rubbish could spell big trouble for marine life, starting with the worms, say a team of researchers from the University of Exeter and Plymouth University who report their evidence in a pair of studies in the Cell Press journal Current Biology. The marine worms play a key ecological role as an important source of food for other animals. University staff stage second strike

University of Exeter staff are taking part in a second day of national strikes over pay conditions today (3 December). Members of the UCU, Unite and UNISON unions are holding a second day of strikes having already taken industrial action on October 31. Members of the EIS union, which represents Scottish university staff, are also join today’s strikes not having taken part of the previous strike. MP pledges support for HIV campaign

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, has pledged his support for Halve It, a national coalition campaign that aims to halve late diagnosis and undiagnosed HIV in the UK by 2015.

RBS to compensate customers

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has promised to compensate customers who were unable to make card payments yesterday evening.

Customers from RBS , Natwest and Ulster Bank were all affected by the systems issue which left many customers being unable to make credit and debit card payments between 18:30 and 21:30.

Tough Choices needed on highways budget proposals

Devon County Council is exploring a number of options to reduce its highways and traffic management budget by almost £7 million.

As part of the County Council’s latest Tough Choices consultation, which was launched in September, Devon is considering how to cut spending in 2014/15.

Firearm incident in Barnstaple

Police have said they are dealing with an ongoing firearms incident in Castle Street, Barnstaple. The situation began shortly after 4pm after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man inside a property. Police have asked people to stay away from the Castle Street area for the time being while the situation

The Strand in Barnstaple closed between the A3125 Long Bridge junction and the Cross Street junction, in connection to this.

Also affecting Castle Street between Cross Street and Commercial Road.

The biggest ‘live’ nativity in the South West is to take place along Exeter High Street before Christmas, featuring sheep, two llamas and a donkey.
