Chiefs confirm Tui to depart

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has today confirmed that tight-head prop Hoani Tui is to leave the Aviva Premiership club at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old will join Lyon, the current leaders of Pro D2, on a two-year deal this summer after five seasons playing for the Chiefs in both the Championship and the Premiership.

Signed from Italian outfit Calvisano in 2010, the popular Kiwi forward has to date played 109 times for the Chiefs in all competitions, scoring six tries in the process.

Five Friendies have now won the chance to meet X factor legend, Luke Friend, face to face this Friday.

The competition winners received the news from Luke himself in a phonecall from his Teignmouth home this afternoon.

Luke, his mum Sue and his dog Gizmo met with Oli Justice from The Exeter Daily to congratulate the winners.

Winners were thrilled and several were left speechless with excitement.

Devon County Council’s Heritage Service has received support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for the heritage strand of the Council’s Devon Remembers project, it was announced today.

Exeter Chiefs are excited to announce that X Factor 2013 star Shelley Smith will be performing at this weekend's Heineken Cup encounter with Glasgow Warriors at Sandy Park (3pm).

Exeter-born Shelley, who made it through as one of the 12 contestants to Live Shows working alongside mentor Sharon Osbourne, will be performing live on the pitch at half-time during our latest European fixture.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is celebrating a second orang utan birth in 9 months.

Bornean orang utan Chinta gave birth on Sunday 22nd December.

NFU calls more flood protection

More funding needs to be directed towards river maintenance to ensure flooding problems do not get worse, and land in rural areas recovers as quickly as possible the NFU said today.

NFU Deputy President Meurig Raymond said flooding problems in parts of the country over the Christmas and New Year period had reinforced the need to ensure a balance between Government investment in larger capital flood defence projects that primarily serve urban areas and funding for river maintenance.

More than 25 emergency rescue flights in the storms

Search and rescue helicopters from the Royal Navy have made more than 25 emergency journeys during the recent storms.

9 people were rescued in the West Country with helicopter crews from Royal Navy Station Culdrose battling with the extreme conditions.

These conditions made the journeys far more dangerous and saw 50knot (57mph) head winds triple the journey time of some flights requiring extra stops for fuel in North Devon.
