A Plymouth student is investigating whether women still purchase glossy magazines in print.

Caitlin Green, who is studying journalism at the University of St Mark and St John, is researching whether women still buy their glossy magazines in print or if they are now downloading them on devices such as Ipads and e readers.

Caitlin is urging the people of Devon to get involved with her study by completing two questionnaires.

Heavy rain and strong gusts of wind forecast for this afternoon

A belt of heavy rain with strong gusts of wind is forecast for Exeter this afternoon.

The band of weather will arrive from midday onwards.

With the rain falling on already saturated ground and gusts of over 25 mph, motorists are being warned to take extra care.

Have your birthday photographed for free

A photography student is offering to photograph people's birthday celebrations free of charge and give them a CD containing all the images, in exchange for their help with her photography project.

Karen Sanders, who studies Photography at Bristol UWE, is creating a piece of work which represents the mixed emotions of unwrapping gifts.

She is asking for people to allow her to film them opening just one present, at a venue of their choice, as part of this project.

Charities seek daredevil record breakers

The hunt has started to find 260 outgoing fundraisers to help break a Guinness World Record in an event set to be the largest of its kind. Skydive UK near Honiton will attempt to take 260 people for a 15,000ft tandem skydive in just one day. The record, which is currently held in Germany, stands at 251 skydives to take place over a 24th hour period and was set in 2013.

NHS cancer risk threshold ‘too high’ for patients

Patients have expressed an appetite for potential cancer symptoms to be checked out much sooner than current NHS thresholds guidelines suggest, new research has revealed. A study led by the University of Bristol, with colleagues at the University of Exeter Medical School and the University of Cambridge, found that 88 per cent of participants opted for further investigation, even if their symptoms carried just a one per cent risk of indicating cancer. Drugs worth £90,000 seized in Brixham

Drugs worth £90,000 have been seized by police after raids were carried out in Brixham.

PC Dave Thomas, assisted by other members of the Brixham and Paignton Neighbourhood Team, conducted a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant in Brixham on Friday (10 January).

The warrant and subsequent searches in the Furzeham area of the town resulted in over £90,000 worth of cocaine and heroin being discovered along with cannabis and a quantity of cash.

Devon health bosses sign tobacco declaration

Devon County Council bosses will be signing up to a national initiative this Thursday (Jan 16), to protect its residents’ health from the risks associated with smoking.

Essential drainage repairs needed in Barrack Road

Barrack Road in Exeter will be closed to traffic between the Topsham Road and Wonford Road junctions for essential drainage repairs and associated works, for three weeks from Monday 27 January.
