The BEST charity pub quiz in Exeter is back in the hall at WESC Foundation on Wednesday 24th September from 7pm. There will be about 20 teams of up to 6 and we are charging £8 per person, but this will include a delicious finger buffet, and a licensed bar will be available. There will be 9 rounds covering topics such as sport, music, history, art & lit, film and current affairs, as well as baffling picture rounds.the event is sponsored by Thomas Westcott and beer is supplied by Exeter Brewery.

Top competitors take part in lamb shearing and dog trials

The reigning world champion wool handler, Devon-based Hilary Bond, narrowly lost out on picking up another title at the Devon County Show’s Lamb Shearing competitions which took place last Sunday (August 10).

Hilary, a working farmer from Bovey Tracey, was beaten by close rival Gwenann Paewai at the well supported event held at Home Farm, Sidbury, near Sidmouth.

Eighty five contenders from all over the UK took part in the shearing competitions which saw 75 sheep relieved of their fleeces in less than 18 minutes in the very keenly fought Open Championship Final which was won...

Responses positive to library consultation

Devon County Council has described responses to its recent consultation on the future of Devon's library service as 'extremely positive'.

Big films al fresco in Northernhay Gardens

Big Screen in the Park returns to Exeter’s Northernhay Gardens tonight (13 August) for four nights of fabulous films under the stars.

A different film will be shown each of the four nights on a 10m wide screen.

Along with the entertainment there are also several places to purchase food and drinks. The Little Devon Pizza Co will be serving up wood fired pizzas, Bar Belafronte will be offering specially selected craft beers and there you'll also find home-made butter fudge popcorn on sale.

Stormy weather delays walkway reopening

The reopening of the walkway between Teignmouth and Smugglers Lane in Dawlish has been delayed until next week, after stormy weather at the weekend damaged the temporary works used to construct Sprey Point ramp.

Network Rail had originally planned to reopen the walkway today, Tuesday 12 August.

Students treat Devon's young carers to summer adventure holiday

Young carers from Exeter, East Devon and Teignbridge have been treated to a grand Summer Adventure thanks to student volunteers from the University of Exeter Students’ Guild volunteering group, Community Action.

Running from 4-15 August, 70 young carers aged between eight and 15 are enjoying a welcome break from the challenges and responsibilities of their daily lives and the chance to make friends with other youngsters.
