With less than a month to go until the return of Exeter Carnival, InExeter the Business Improvement District, the organisation behind Exeter Carnival’s return have released more information on the Carnival Procession.

Queen Street cycle lane plans scrapped

Plans previously agreed to make the one-way layout of Exeter’s Queen Street permanent are being scaled back due to “significant increases” in costs.

In January, councillors agreed to spend £250,000 constructing a layout similar to the current ‘pop-up’ one, which was installed early in 2021 to help with social distancing and to encourage more walking and cycling.

An organisation that supports people in poverty in Exeter and Torquay has won a community award from leading builders merchant Selco.

Punk Against Poverty CIC has secured £500 worth of building materials through its Community Heroes campaign.

The organisation provides free school uniforms to children in need and will use the materials to help fix the roof at one of its two fundraising shops in Torbay.

Exeter Service of Remembrance

Exeter will come together on Sunday 13 November to remember all those who have served and lost their lives as part of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces as a result of conflict or terrorism.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Remembrance Sunday at the War Memorial in Northernhay Gardens. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Pet lovers in Exeter have raised over £55,000 by taking part in Battersea’s Muddy Dog Challenge - one of the UK’s biggest obstacle courses where members of the public can take part with their dog.  

520 participants came together at Escot House, Devon on Saturday (29 October) in a fun-packed day full of mud, sweat and cheers. The event has so far raised a total of £58,024 which will go towards the vital care of the thousands of dogs and cats everywhere that the charity helps every year.

Safety improvement work at roundabout in Exeter

Work to introduce road safety improvements at a roundabout in Exeter is due to get underway next week.

Two raised pedestrian crossings are to be installed on the Sweetbrier Lane approaches to the roundabout which connects with Whipton Lane.

Work is scheduled to start on Monday 7 November and is expected to last two weeks.

Exeter Dunelm store helps local Beavers embark on a new gardening journey

The Exeter branch of Dunelm, the UK’s leading homeware retailer, has donated gardening supplies to a local Beavers group, helping them to earn their gardening badge.

The Beavers received the gardening equipment after winning a competition that was hosted by the Exeter store’s Community Facebook Group.
