Exeter's Young Professionals' festive frolics for youth homelessness

So who’s up for some fun festive frolics? Why not join the growing gang of Santa lookalikes and elf impersonators shimmying 100ft down the Princesshay Car Park in central Exeter for Exeter YMCA’s fifth charity Santa Abseil, sponsored by Gilbert Stephens and Attention Media.

Due to take place on Saturday 6 December, all money raised will help the YMCA continue to provide a home to over 40 young people and the support that they need to see a brighter future.

When Sarah Henderson was diagnosed with severe bronchiectasis in December 2013 little did she realise that months later she'd be running a half marathon.

Earlier this year, things took a turn for the worst when her lungs became colonised by the superbug Pseudomonas Aeruginosa which resulted in several admissions to hospital and means she now has to take antibiotics every day to keep the bacteria at a low level.

Exeter YMCA is proud to receive the High Sheriff Award for Services to the Community

John Lee, the High Sheriff for Devon, first visited Exeter YMCA earlier this year. He had a tour of their projects, met with many of the clients to hear how Exeter YMCA had helped transform their lives and heard presentations on their work in prisons, through Job Clubs and in schools.

John Lee said: "I was clearly very impressed with what I saw and also with the very dedicated team [at Exeter YMCA]."

With only a week and a half to go until Sleep Easy, Exeter YMCA is delighted to announce that Radio Exe will be the official media sponsor of this year's event.

Sleep Easy is a sponsored Sleep Out event which takes place each year in the Guildhall Shopping Centre. Last year Exeter YMCA held the biggest Sleep Easy event in the country. Local businesses support sleep-out fundraiser

Several businesses are supporting Exeter YMCA’s biggest fundraising event, Sleep Easy 2014, by donating prizes.

Sleep Easy involves members of the public spending a night under the stars to raise awareness and funds for Exeter YMCA’s work of supporting homeless young people.

Last year over 180 people took part, raising over £30,000, and Exeter YMCA hope Sleep Easy 2014 will outdo last year’s success.

To spur the participants on in their fundraising, prizes have been donated for the top fundraisers.

Exeter Chamber helps raise hundreds for local charities

Exeter Chamber of Commerce helped eight local charities raise over £900 at their Christmas Charity Auction Lunch last week, held at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

Paul Nero, chief executive of Radio Exe was the auctioneer on the day, taking bids from over 100 business people that were in attendance. Items for auction included an Exeter Chiefs Rugby weekend experience for two, in aid of St Loyes Foundation, and a beautiful framed print of the cover photo of the BBC Radio Devon Countryside Calendar from Devon Community Foundation.

Local charity Exeter YMCA is issuing the challenge, to those with a daring heart, to run the Great West Run on behalf of Exeter YMCA wearing an imaginative costume. The runner with the most impressive costume will receive two day passes at the Exeter Golf and Country Club as a prize.

Exeter YMCA Dartmoor Walk raises over £2,500

Exeter YMCA saw fantastic success for their annual ‘Y-Walk’ event on Saturday 1 June, as a group of more than 40 trekked 11 miles from Okehampton Camp to Postbridge.
