Exeter Chiefs has become the latest independent business in the city to sign up to Exeter Pound.

The successful rugby club joins more than a hundred other traders to use the complimentary currency.

The Exeter Pound was given a special launch at Sandy Park yesterday (Saturday 19th September) at the pre-season friendly against Bath.

Members of the public were able to purchase Exeter Pounds at a special Exchange Point at the stadium and use the local money to pay for admission and in the bars and shops at the club. The main benefit is to keep currency circulating...

Exeter Pound launches next month

On Tuesday 1 September the local currency for Exeter goes live as the Exeter Pound is launched in front of Exeter Cathedral between 10.30am and noon. At 11am the first Exeter Pound will be spent by the Lord Mayor of Exeter. There will be a community market set upLo in front of the cathedral with a selection of local traders who have stepped up to be the first of many to take the local currency and will run until 5pm. Harry Potter joins forces with Exeter Cavern & Concrete Donkey for Exeter Pound

Exeter Pound has revealed its £E10 note will feature Exeter’s iconic Gandy Street, accompanied on the reverse by local band Concrete Donkey on stage at Exeter Cavern.

Daniel Hillier of Vision ICT captured the image of the band’s drummer Dave Parsons at a recent gig in the club.

For Daniel, he said “It is great to see this culturally important venue being represented on the £E10”.

The Cavern holds a prestige status in the city, as one of the longest running live music venues, which continues to be important for the young people of the city.

Exeter City Football Club has agreed to become a partner to Exeter Pound. Discussions have begun to explore how the club will take the local currency at St James Park.

Gill Westcott, Chair of the Board of Directors of Exeter Pound said: "Exeter City Football Club is a key player in the community. We will be delighted if the Exeter Pound can be used at the club."

Stagecoach has also agreed to become a partner to Exeter Pound. Parallel discussions have opened as to how people might pay for their bus fares in Exeter Pounds.

Exeter City Football Club has agreed to become a partner to Exeter Pound. Discussions have begun to explore how the club will take the local currency at St James Park.

Exeter Chiefs commit to Exeter Pounds

The Exeter Chiefs have given their backing to a new local currency due to launch in the city this September. One of the largest independent businesses in Exeter, the Premiership rugby club has committed to become part of Exeter Pound. Not only will an image from Sandy Park feature on a special £E15 note issued to mark the Rugby World Cup arriving in the city, but the Chiefs have also pledged accept the Exeter Pounds and will look to spend them with their suppliers. Exeter Pound unveils logo

The Exeter Pound project has reveled a new logo ahead of its launch later this year.

It is hoped the local currency will be available in the autumn of 2015 to encourage people to use local businesses and build a stronger community identity for Exeter.

The Exeter Pound team has been working in partnership with Nigel Lowe, a lecturer from Exeter College and his students over the last few months to create a logo that would represent Exeter Pound. Student Lily Bedingham created the design.

Wednesday night’s Exeter Pound event at the Bike Shed Theatre was a busy one, with a range of guests, and exciting news of the formation of the Exeter Pound CIC (Community Interest Company). It was a packed house at the Count Down to Community Money event with a wide range of guests from local councilors, local business people and members of the general public. The Exeter Pound soon to launch

Plans for a local currency, the Exeter Pound, will be unveiled in an early evening presentation at the BikeShed Theatre tonight (Wednesday September 24).

The Exeter Pound will be a complimentary currency, designed to work alongside sterling, not replace it and will aim to focus more spending in the strong networks of independent producers, retailers and service providers in Exeter.

By being a currency that can be used in local businesses, the Exeter Pound will give the public the opportunity to support the local economy and community.

A Local Currency For Exeter?

Chris Sunderland, Director of the Bristol Pound project, will be explaining the value of a local currency for local businesses at a public meeting in St Stephen’s Church in Exeter High Street, Thursday evening 26 September (6.45pm arrival for 7pm start).

The Bristol Pound project was launched last year as a paper currency with internet banking facilities.
