Coffee lovers encouraged to 'Reuse' for Exeter

Coffee lovers are being encouraged to drink from reusable cups when getting their take-outs in Exeter. Exeter City Council’s Recycling department will be handing out free limited edition Denis the Dustcart KeepCups at a series of giveaway events around the city. The aim is that people will use the cups as a cup for life. Disposable coffee cups are a big problem. It has been six months since the fire on Cathedral Green.

To mark the occasion Exeter City Council has released some of the CCTV footage from the night which has never been seen before.

A spokesman said: "We would again like to thank Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and Devon & Cornwall Police for the amazing job they did on the night. We would also like to thank the public in Exeter for their continued support of the city centre. Please feel free to share our short film."

Exeter mini-cab drivers prosecuted

Three private hire vehicle drivers in Exeter have been prosecuted for illegally picking up fares on the street. The prosecutions follow a joint operation by Exeter City Council, the Police and Vector Transport Consultancy on 22 October 2016. By law, private hire vehicles – unlike taxis (hackney carriages) – can only transport customers if the trip is booked in advance. Only hackney carriages can pick up fares on the street. Film crews provide big boost to Exeter's economy

Filming in Exeter has brought in an estimated £140,000 worth of benefits to the city over the last year, new figures have revealed. TV documentaries, dramas, promotional films and adverts have all been shot in Exeter over the last 12 months. The City Council liaise directly with production companies wishing to film in Exeter, advising on the suitability of locations, how to gain access and places to stay and eat out at. Study to assess whether Exeter needs new entertainment venue underway

Work to assess the need for a major new entertainment venue in the city is underway.

Exeter City Council has appointed external adviser Fourth Street to carry out a needs assessment for a new 1,000 seat minimum capacity venue.

Fourth Street will analyse current and future demand for different facilities, current provision and potential opportunities and funding.

It will then report back to councillors and the New Entertainment Venue Advisory Group, which was set up by the council to support the review.

With local elections taking place in just a few weeks, voters in Exeter are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote and are able to take part on polling day, Thursday 4 May. New cash to help vulnerable women in Exeter turn their backs on crime

Vulnerable women at risk of committing crime are to benefit from tailored, targeted support to break the cycle of reoffending and turn their lives around for good – backed by funding totalling over £800,000, Justice Minister Dr Phillip Lee has today announced.

City council faces up to dementia

As more and more people are diagnosed with Dementia, Exeter City Council has revealed its commitment to the challenges faced by arguably the biggest health crisis facing the UK and how it is helping those with dementia to access its services.

Last year the City Council became a member of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance. In doing so, it joined over 50 organisations and businesses within Exeter, working to make the city dementia friendly.
