Vital Devon community buses could face the axe

Vital community bus schemes across Devon could have to close if the Government enforces European regulations, a senior county councillor has warned.

The Government is currently consulting on licencing for community transport after a commercial bus company challenged current UK guidance in the European courts.

As a result, community buses with more than nine seats would be subject to the same regulations as buses, minibuses and coaches run for profit.

And community transport drivers would have to have the same qualifications as professional drivers.

Periods of extreme cold winter weather and perilous snowfall, similar to those that gripped the UK in a deep freeze with the arrival of the ‘Beast from the East’, could be linked to the solar cycle, pioneering new research has shown.

A new study, led by Dr Indrani Roy from the University of Exeter, has revealed when the solar cycle is in its ‘weaker’ phase, there are warm spells across the Arctic in winter, as well as heavy snowfall across the Eurasian sector.

Fragile images of Devon on show for the first time in a century

Thousands of fragile and irreplaceable images of Devon have been preserved for future generations to see thanks to University of Exeter experts.

YMCA Exeter’s 8th annual Santa Abseil from Princesshay car park returns once again on Saturday 9th December.

Dressed in Santa suits, local people of Exeter, from amateurs to abseiling veterans, will be challenged to take on the 100ft abseil down Princesshay car park to raise funds and awareness for youth homelessness over the festive season.

Devon apprentices and graduate to keep local people safe and warm

Seven young people from Devon have started their training programmes with Wales & West Utilities as the company continues to work hard to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses while preparing to meet future challenges.

The new recruits, Jordan Rundle, Luke Hathaway, Robert Hook, Niall Bradley, Louis Allan, earned places on the company’s highly regarded apprenticeship whilst Henry James has started the company’s graduate programme.
