YMCA Exeter’s 8th annual Santa Abseil from Princesshay car park returns once again on Saturday 9th December.

Dressed in Santa suits, local people of Exeter, from amateurs to abseiling veterans, will be challenged to take on the 100ft abseil down Princesshay car park to raise funds and awareness for youth homelessness over the festive season.

With the aim for each volunteer to raise £150, these essential funds will help to support those transitioning from vulnerable accommodation into their new home at YMCA Exeter. Every year the charity provide Support Accommodation for almost 100 young people who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness within the city.

Hilary Bush, Event Organiser at YMCA Exeter, says: ‘The abseil provides a fantastic opportunity for local people to take part in raising money to fight youth homelessness over Christmas. It’s a challenging time for many youngsters who are homeless and vulnerable and our aim is to help young local people overcome obstacles that are preventing them from living a full life. We hope the people of Exeter can support us and help achieve our goal.’

Andy Littlejohns, Princesshay Operations Manager, said: ‘We’re really pleased to support what we’re sure will be a fantastic fundraising day and look forward to multiple Santa sightings abseiling down from the Princesshay car park. We hope it raises a huge amount of funds for the important work YMCA Exeter do in our city.’

Do you think you could do it?

YMCA Exeter are looking for local volunteers to take on the challenge, which saw a staggering £7,265 raised in 2016. Volunteers will receive a free Santa suit for their abseil as well as a tempting range of hot drinks and mince pies to enjoy on the day.

The event will take place on Saturday 9th December from 10am - 4pm at Princesshay Car Park.
