East Devon District Council has reluctantly decided to move the venue of the Feniton ‘super inquiry’ because the initial location is not big enough for the eight-day hearing.
After appeals by three developers against EDDC’s refusal of planning permission for their proposals, the Planning Inspectorate decided to combine appeal hearings for three Feniton sites into a single event.
The appeals are by Feniton Park Ltd for Acland Park (32 homes), Strategic Land Partnership for land west of Ottery Road (up to 120 homes) and Wainhomes for an extension to the 50 homes allowed at...
A major public inquiry into the East Devon’s new Local Plan will begin in February.
The Draft Local Plan submitted by East Devon District Council (EDDC) includes detailed expectations for the future of the districts seven towns.
It also covers many issues in the area including Housing and Affordable Housing, Employment, Tourism and Retail, Climate Change, Gypsies & Travellers and the Natural Environment. A 19-day examination of the plan by Government Inspector Anthony Thickett will air the details of the plan to the public.
Essential geotechnical and environmental investigations will be taking place around, and under, the Mamhead Slipway in Exmouth from Monday 2 December.
This investigation work is expected to last two to three weeks and is necessary as preparation for the longer term replacement or improvement of the slipway, a key project within the Exmouth Vision.
Engineers will drill boreholes through the slipway to gain information about the makeup of the geology beneath the seabed.
Trial trenches and shallow boreholes will also be opened in the Mamhead Gardens area to check the...
FOLLOWING the Council’s decision in July to relocate, four locations have now been short-listed as the possible home for East Devon District Council’s new offices. The short-list was produced by elected Members scoring the 15 possible sites against a set of desired outcomes (see bulleted tick list below).
Councillors were briefed on the locations – Cranbrook, Skypark, Winslade Park and Heathpark – at the end of October and a stakeholder group heard about the options at a meeting today (Friday 8 November).
East Devon District Council’s Cabinet yesterday has agreed to support Exmouth Rowing Club to move into the old lifeboat station adjacent to their existing premises on Queen’s Drive.
This will allow the council to move forward with its plans for the regeneration of Queen’s Drive.
The club will be charged a reduced rent for the new premises to be reviewed after five years. Refurbishment of the building to bring it up to date is to be funded by the club through an Inspired Facilities grant from Sport England.

Hedge-laying is good for wildlife, and can be fun and good exercise for humans too.
That’s the message from EDDC’s Countryside Team as they invite people to fill the limited spaces on a hedge-laying day on 1st November 2013.
Much of the work carried out by Countryside staff and volunteers is practical and hands-on at the nature reserves across the district. Sites are managed with people and wildlife as the priorities and the team are keen to keep traditional practices alive as far as possible.
Nature Conservation Officer Steve Edmonds said: “A laid hedge has several...
Twenty pupils from Sidmouth Primary School had a go at taking Planning decisions when they visited East Devon District Council.
The seven-year-olds, with their teacher Mrs Hammond, spent a morning at EDDC’s Knowle headquarters learning about Planning and Development as part of a school topic. They received help and guidance from council staff and from Councillor Christine Drew, EDDC Member Champion for Children and Young People (see photo).
The children had a look at current maps of Sidmouth and found where they lived, then were given maps from 80 years ago and 130 years...
Connaught Gardens in Sidmouth and Manor Gardens in Exmouth are still among the best in the country – and that’s official!
Both have again received the prestigious Green Flag Award, a sign to visitors that the park is a well-maintained and well-managed high quality green space, with excellent facilities. It’s the tenth year in a row for Sidmouth, while Exmouth has now won the award nine times consecutively.
The gardens are among a record number of parks and green spaces receiving the Green Flag Award this year, ensuring that even more of us now have access to well-managed,...
Expressions of interest are to be sought for the Council-owned Heathpark site in Honiton following the Cabinet decision on 4 September to test the market.
Council Leader Paul Diviani said: “We are committed to exploring all options for a possible new office site as well as maximising the values from our landholdings. One option has always been the sale of our Heathpark site alongside that of Knowle and Manstone Depot in Sidmouth and to use the money raised for a new, more efficient and modern headquarters. It is important to understand the value of this site and what interest there...
High demand for premises from small firms has seen East Devon District Council let all its available business units over the last month.
Four units have been taken up in Axminster at Millwey Rise with the new firms trading including commercial vehicle agents for Italian car manufacturer Piaggio, a fishing bait manufacturer, a caravan refurbishment business and a glazier.
In Seaton a car cleaning and valeting business has moved into the one of the Riverside Workshops whilst in Sidmouth a unit at the Manstone Workshops has just been taken on by a bespoke carpenter and joiner...
