The Donkey Sanctuary and Barclays celebrate a 50-year partnership

The Donkey Sanctuary’s golden anniversary was celebrated last week alongside its 50-year banking partnership with Barclays bank.

Representatives from Barclays visited the charity’s international headquarters in Sidmouth where they presented staff with an engraved Dartington Crystal glass vase. The inscription on the vase read ‘The Donkey Sanctuary - Celebrating 50 years in 2019 - Presented by your proud supporters - Barclays’.

International animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary is proud to welcome accomplished vet and star of the popular TV show, The Yorkshire Vet, as its new ambassador.

Peter Wright will be familiar to viewers of the award-winning Channel 5 television showwhich follows the lives and work of Peter and fellow veterinarian Julian Norton at their two practices in North Yorkshire. Peter is based at Skeldale Veterinary Centre, the former workplace of famous veterinarian and author James Alfred "Alf" Wight, more widely known by his pen name, James Herriot.

International animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, has this week been granted Non-Governmental Organisation status by the United Nations.

The accreditation is evidence of The Donkey Sanctuary’s growing international reputation and allows the organisation more opportunities to participate at a higher level on the world stage.

Easter Holiday fun at The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary has a packed programme of activities over the Easter holidays. Visitors can help celebrate the charity’s Golden Anniversary and take part in an Easter Egg hunt around the Sidmouth sanctuary. The Easter Holiday Hunt is the perfect way to explore the sanctuary and find out more about some of the most iconic donkeys that have been brought into the care of The Donkey Sanctuary over the years.

The Donkey Sanctuary welcomed the Rt Hon Sir Hugo Swire to its international headquarters in Sidmouth last week, where he met the charity’s chief executive officer Mike Baker and was given a tour of the sanctuary.

The Member of Parliament for East Devon was given a brief history of the organisation and how it plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. The Donkey Sanctuary has won a gold award in the prestigious 2018 Devon Tourism Awards. HRH The Princess Royal presented staff from The Donkey Sanctuary an award in recognition of their employee training last week. It is the second time the international animal welfare charity has received the Princess Royal Training Award.

Volunteer day at The Donkey Sanctuary’s Paccombe Farm

The Donkey Sanctuary is inviting volunteers to join them at Paccombe Farm near Sidmouth on Wednesday 7 November, to help carry out essential conservation work.

Volunteers are being sought to help carry out essential conservation work in woodland at The Donkey Sanctuary’s Paccombe Farm in Harcombe. Volunteers will join the charity’s conservation team and assist them with the traditional method of hazel coppicing. The Donkey Sanctuary's Family Food Fair which was due to take place on Saturday (13 October) has been cancelled due to bad wather.

A spokesperson for The Donkey Sanctuary said: "As a result of weather warnings we have unfortunately cancelled the Family Food Fair, which was due to take place tomorrow, Saturday 13 October.

"With the location of the Fair in a marquee and high winds expected over the next 24 hours we must put the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers first.
