Over 100 delegates attended the recent Exeter Chamber of Commerce monthly networking lunch which took at Reed Hall, Exeter University.

The guest speaker for this lunch was Karime Hassan, Chief Executive and Growth Director of Exeter City Council who gave an update to delegates on business issues in the city along with information on future plans and investments in the pipeline.

For those who don’t know, Sandy Park is one of the latest properties available on the new edition of Exeter Monopoly that was unveiled just a few weeks ago in the city.

Op Slug cuts allotment crime in Exeter

Police in Exeter are so pleased with the results of Operation Slug that they are hoping to expand the operation.

The scheme has seen a 90% reduction in crime and allotment thefts using Smartwater, an invisible property-marking solution.

Launched across 26 of the city’s allotment sites, Op Slug has prevented burglaries to sheds and outbuildings. 1300 allotment holders have been protected, and their expensive garden tools from being stolen.

Watch football stars of the future in Exeter

A rare opportunity to see some top young footballers and potential stars of the future is on offer when Exeter City’s Under 21 team play West Ham Under 21s on Wednesday 2 December in the Premier League Under 21 Cup Round of 32. The game is at Exeter City’s St James Park stadium with a 7pm Kick Off.

West Ham has one of the foremost football academies in the country producing an endless supply of young talent. Most famously they developed Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters who were all World Cup winners with England in 1966.

Extra Sunday trains for Christmas shoppers

Extra trains will run on Sundays between Exeter Central and Exmouth for Christmas, starting on 29 November and finishing on 20 December.

On these four Sundays, trains will run every half hour through the day, instead of the usual hourly service. All trains will call at Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham and Lympstone stations.

The additional trains are being run through a partnership between Great Western Railway (GWR) and Devon County Council.

TEDxExeter 2016 set to be a sell out

People hoping to attend the TEDxExeter conference on 15 April 2016 will need to act fast when tickets go on sale at 10am on Tuesday 1 December.

Each year, since the event began in 2012, tickets have sold out faster than the year before.

School crossing patrol consultation launches

A consultation reviewing how school crossing patrols should be funded and provided in the county is being launched by Devon County Council.

The authority is exploring ways to maintain the service while looking to save £250,000 from the service’s budget in the coming financial year. It is part of £110 million of savings required over the next four years.
