Rail passengers urged to check journey times

GWR is urging passengers to check journey times before they travel over the Christmas period as Network Rail carry out vital works to modernise the rail infrastructure.

Services will be altered between Thursday 24 December and Sunday 3 January as part of a programme of engineering in the Thames Valley needed for the launch of Crossrail in 2019, and continued works to electrify the Great Western mainline.

Update: Police have reported a happy ending to the unclaimed Christmas presents case as the rightful owners have been located.

Police are appealing to the public following Christmas presents being handed in at Newton Abbot Station that are so far unclaimed.

The gifts have tags stating “To Warren from Dad” and “To Evelyn from Dad” and were initially left outside a house on Sandringham Road, Newton Abbot before being handed into the police.

Devon & Cornwall Police have released a statement following rumours of planned terrorist attacks in the region.

SW house prices to increase by 5% in 2016

House prices in the South West will see an increase of 5% over the course of next year according to the RICS housing forecast for 2016. This is lower than the national average increase of 6% but the same as London and Northern Island. The North East is likely to see the most modest price rise with a predicted increase for 2016 at 3%. Devon and Cornwall Police is asking everyone this festive season, and throughout the coming year, to think carefully before calling 999 or 101 and to only do so in an emergency or to report a non-urgent crime.

The Force’s two contact centres in Plymouth and Exeter receive more than a million calls a year. Although many people use the service responsibly there are still a significant number who, whether through ignorance or impatience, waste police time and also increase call waiting times for genuine callers.

Devon is looking forward to a welcome economic boost, thanks to Christmas this year, says VisitDevon.
