Big boost for Pinhoe community project

New homes being built for people in Exeter are set to help generate £100,000 for a community project in Pinhoe.

A report is to come before councillors at Exeter City Council next month recommending £100,000 of funds are allocated to support the development of Pinhole Community Hub.

Pinhoe has been the subject to major new housing developments and the funding comes from New Homes Bonus, money paid to councils by central government for creating and freeing up homes for people to live in.

Police appeal following M5 crash

Emergency services were called to a serious collision yesterday (Wednesday 21 September) which closed the M5 North and Southbound at junction 28, Cullompton, and junction 29, Exeter.

Police were informed just after 9am to the incident involving a car and an articulated heavy goods vehicle on the Northbound between junctions 29 and 28.

At one stage, the North and Southbound carriageways were closed in order to facilitate the landing of the Air Ambulance.

Police have released a fresh appeal for 15-year-old Arthur Heeler-Frood, who has not been seen since the morning of Tuesday 6 September.

The family of Arthur have released a further appeal asking their son to make contact.

Caroline and Jeremy Heeler-Frood have appealed directly to their son: “Arthur, we are desperately worried about you. Please make contact. We need to know you are safe. We can work out a solution if there is something troubling you.”

Devon Air Ambulance secures funding for life-saving journeys

Devon Air Ambulance Trust has secured funding for potentially life-saving journeys over the next 12 months – thanks to a renewed charity partnership with Thomson Airways. Staff at Thomson Airways’ Exeter Airport base have donated almost £13,000 since the partnership began in September 2015, and the airline has confirmed donations will continue for a further year. Money is raised in a variety of ways by Thomson pilots, cabin crew and ground staff based at the airport – from bake-offs to bungee jumps – and complements contributions made by passengers on the airline’s Exeter-bound flights....

Man seriously injured in M5 crash

A serious collision closed the M5 North and Southbound at junction 28, Cullompton, and junction 29, Exeter.

Police were called just after 9am today (Wednesday 21 September) to the incident on the M5 at Cullompton.

A lorry, which was travelling on the M5 Northbound, has collided with the central reservation.

Two other vehicles have been involved.

An air ambulance was called and landed on the carriageway to assist with casualties.

Family donate funds to ICU in memory of mum

The Chappell family, from Exmouth, have raised over £15,000 to help patients on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in memory of mum Jacquie.

Jacquie, 55, spent several months being cared for on the ICU at Exeter before sadly passing away from heart failure in December 2014.

In honour of her memory and as a way of saying thank you to the staff who cared for her, Jacquie’s daughters Victoria and Laura, and husband Roger organised a charity ball in April 2016. The glittering black tie event, held at Woodbury Park in April, saw 220 guests enjoy...

Children aged 16 and under plus students with a valid student photo ID / NUS card enjoy free entry.

Tickets are available online until 17:00 on Sunday 25 September. Tickets will also be available to buy at the gate on the day.
