Special Italian connection for The Nello 2017

This year’s Nello cycle ride in aid of FORCE Cancer Charity has been described as possibly the best ever.

The Nello is the biggest fundraising event of the year for FORCE, which works locally to offer face-to-face support for anyone affected by cancer.

This year’s event will raise an estimated £75,000.

Riders tackled 55 or 100 mile routes around glorious Devon and Somerset countryside in variable weather condition.

A leading accountant in the South West has praised young entrepreneurs in the region for displaying skills and determination at the regional finals of the Young Enterprise Awards on 14 June 2017.

New £1 coins only at council car parks from 1 July

Drivers are being encouraged to check they’ve swapped the ‘old for the new’ before they park in any of Exeter City Council’s car parks.

From Saturday July 1, payment machines in City Council-owned car parks will only accept the new 12-sided new pound coins.

At the same time, people are able to ‘go cashless’ by using card or phone payments as quicker ways to pay.

Exeter food outlet fined for unclean premises

The directors of an Exeter food outlet have been fined by magistrates after they admitted the premises were unclean and food hygiene standards had been breached.

In May 2016 complaints were received by Exeter City Council about Hong Cheng Limited, trading as Hometown, in St David’s Hill, Exeter.

An environmental health officer completed an unannounced visit to the newly opened premises. The conditions found led to the voluntary closure of the premises, with a number of improvements needed to be put in place before it would be allowed to reopen.

Man seriously injured by broken bottle

Between 9.30pm and 9.50pm on Saturday (24 June) near to the lawn on Brunswick Place in Dawlish, a 32 year old local man was assaulted which resulted in a serious wound to the neck.

It is understood that the victim was leaving a local takeaway and was confronted by a man and an altercation has taken place. The injury is alleged to have been caused by a broken bottle.

Appeal for Devon cricket clubs to save visiting tour

Young cricketers from Kidderminster have been knocked for six after being let down by a sports travel company, leaving plans for a summer tour to Devon in tatters.

In March Glamorgan-based Syrene Sports Travel Ltd offered to organise the five-day tour, sourcing accommodation and games for the team, whose players range from 14 to 18.

But Kidderminster Cricket Club’s junior section chairman Sarah Beadsworth said since early June she has been “fobbed off” by travel company boss Adrian Evans and since last Friday he has not answered her phone calls or texts.

Breathe Easy group donates Pulse Oximeters to RD&E’s Respiratory Department

The Exeter and East Devon Breathe Easy group has donated two brand new Pulse Oximeters to the Respiratory Outpatients Department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to help support patients who have lung conditions.

The new pieces of portable equipment will be used both at the RD&E and out in the community to monitor patient’s oxygen saturation levels.
