Archaeologists have uncovered remains of a large building on the National Trust’s Killerton estate.
This significant find supports the theory that these are the remains of Killerton’s lost house; a grand mansion designed by renowned architect James Wyatt, the location of which has been lost for 240 years. Rumours about the lost mansion have persisted for many years, but no-one has been able to find where the building was located. All that remained of the mansion are designs by Wyatt for a building three times bigger than the current Killerton House, and a few surviving letters and...
RGB Building Supplies has reopened its Well Built Community Fund and is calling out to schools, charities and community groups to tell it about projects that have an autumnal theme for the chance to receive £1,000 worth of building materials.
This will be the builders’ merchants’ 20th Community Fund giveaway and whatever the reason for the nomination, RGB would like to hear about it. Maybe a charity needs to make repairs to ensure a building is safe for winter, or perhaps an amateur dramatic group needs help with staging for an autumn performance.
Arrests of children by Devon and Cornwall Police have fallen by 76 per cent in the last six years, figures published by the Howard League for Penal Reform reveal today (Monday 7 August).

The statistics underline the success of a major Howard League programme, which involves working with police...

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has released the results from its fifth economic well-being survey.
Citizens Advice Exeter Chief Executive Steve Barriball said: “A key finding is that more than half of those who responded to the survey, some 62%, said that they were worried about their financial position.
This is up significantly from 51% earlier in the year. Whilst income levels seem to have stabilised, with 61% of those responding saying their income levels remained the same, only 18% of respondents had seen their expenditure reduce.
