Call for nominations for Community Transport Awards

The search for entries is underway for this year’s Devon County Council Community Transport Awards.

The annual award ceremony honours the exceptional service and dedication of staff and volunteers who deliver essential Community Transport services in Devon.

Nomination forms are available from the County Council and must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 16 May.

Passengers, staff, volunteers, community organisations, service providers and Town and Parish Councils can nominate anyone working or volunteering in the community transport sector for the awards.

Slow cooker! RSPCA rescue slow worm stuck in barbecue equipment

If you are planning to dig out the barbeque tools and enjoy the sunshine this weekend you may get more than you bargained for!

A woman had a shock when house sitting for friends after she discovered a slow worm wedged in a BBQ tool.

RSPCA Animal Collection Officer Paul Adams was called yesterday (April 19) by a member of the public who found the slow worm in a shed in the garden in Exeter.

The slow worm was completely stuck and ACO Adams had to take him - still stuck in the tool - to RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre.

Residents in Exeter and the surrounding areas are invited to Cardiomyopathy UK’s awareness raising Information Day on Saturday 28th April 2018 at the Mercure Exeter Rougemount Hotel. .

The charity is encouraging people to come along and meet expert speakers as well as sharing their own life experiences with others affected by the condition. Cardiomyopathy is a heart muscle disease and a main cause of sudden cardiac death.

Harry ‘The Hunter’ Webb is looking to put on a show at a famous fight venue this month.

The 21 year old from Exeter will look to make it three wins out of three at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, April 28.

The East End venue is regarded by many as a spiritual home of British boxing – and Webb is delighted to be boxing there.

Exeter Junior School Headmistress Sue Marks and her daughter, alumna Amy Marks, are celebrating completion the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April for charity.

The dynamic duo are raising money for The Children's Society and MIND, in support of the school's charity bike ride from John O' Groats to Land's End over the summer.
