An Exeter School alumnus has been awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Nathaniel Newman (2006 - 2013) was presented with the honour of ‘Best Cadet’ at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Exeter Camerata is an exciting new chamber orchestra based in Exeter comprising some 35 of the very best musicians in the area.

Led by well known violinist Antony Clements and directed by Tony Hindley, audiences can expect appealing concert programmes expertly delivered.

Pupils at the pioneering Exeter Mathematics School have received a royal visit thanks to their innovative work with academics and leading technology organisations.

The Duke of Gloucester, the Queen's cousin, visited the school today to find out more about the unique ways teachers are boosting science, technology, engineering and maths skills and careers in the South West.

Fish and chicks at Living Coasts

An African penguin chick has been nursed back to health with fish soup by dedicated zoo keepers. The decision to remove the chick from its parents was taken when keepers saw signs of illness and a lack of appetite.

Since then, staff at Living Coasts, Torquay’s coastal zoo and aquarium, have been feeding the chick every 3 hours from 7.30 in the morning to 7.30 at night. The only thing on the menu is fish; at first this was blended into a liquid soup, but the chick has now moved on to solids.

The finalists for this year’s South West Chef of the Year competition have been chosen and now face the toughest challenge yet - to prepare their dishes for a daunting line-up of judges on 24th October at Exeter College. Lilian, 80 years old from Axminster, volunteers as treasurer of her local support group, helps fundraise in the local community, and has volunteered in the Axminster Hospiscare shop for over 22 years.

Shop manager, Anna says, “Lilian is very modest. She does so much to help in the shop but acts like it’s nothing. She often looks after the whole shop when we are short staffed and even pops in when she is out doing her shopping to check if we need any help. To me she is completely irreplaceable.”
