Inquest to be held as Harry Martin is formally identified

The body recovered from the sea last Saturday (11 January) has been formally identified as the missing teenager Harry Martin today (16 January).

A formal inquest into the death of Mr Martin, who went missing from his home in Newton Ferrers during the height of the recent storms, is due to begin next Monday (20 January).

The 18-year-old’s body was found in Carswell Bay in the Noss Mayo area by friends who were aiding in the search effort using sea kayaks.

Council invites Prime Minister to discuss £750m road repairs backlog

Devon County Council has invited the Prime Minister to personally see the state of the county’s roads after the recent storms.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, the County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management and Flood Prevention, has written to David Cameron to ask him to discuss concerns over road maintenance with Ministers and Government officials.

The authority is currently facing an estimated £750 million backlog of repairs to bring the county’s road network up to standard.

Despite this backlog the Department of Transport has only made £136 million available...

Dramatic footage showing the moment a prolific offender was captured by police has been released to the public. Filmed by the police helicopter, the video shows officers and a police dog track 29-year-old man, Dylan Taylor, who was later convicted of a series of offences across the Force area. The incident took place in Exeter in the early hours of 29 April 2013 after officers in the police helicopter spotted a vehicle acting suspiciously. Budget proposes Teignbridge's fourth council tax freeze

Residents are encouraged to say whether they think Teignbridge has got its priorities right as the council moves forward with its draft budget plans.

People have the opportunity to tell the Council what they think after the Executive approved its initial financial plans for 2014/15 to 2016/17.

The draft budget proposes to freeze Council Tax for the fourth year in a row, carrying on with its popular free Sunday parking scheme in its own car parks and putting money into a pot specifically to help create more jobs and build new homes.

Exeter School is pleased to complete this year’s Oxbridge admissions process with the announcement that seven pupils have been offered places.

In the last five years, Exeter School has received 35 offers from Oxford and Cambridge colleges.

Woman rescued from waist-deep mud

Police have rescued a woman in her 70s who was walking on Dartmoor and managed to get trapped in a bog.

At about 1.45pm on Saturday 11 January police received a call from a woman who said she was stuck on the moors.

Mobile phone reception was poor and it was not clear initially where she was or why she was stuck.

After several calls it became evident she was stuck in mud and things became more serious when she was heard to say: “It’s now up to my...” and then the line dropped out.

New toilets set for Exmouth seafront

State of the art toilets are set to be built on Exmouth seafront following the go-ahead from planners last week.

In addition the new East Devon District Council toilets will be open all year round and include both disabled and baby changing facilities.

The existing toilets, that are costly to maintain and do not meet current British Standards, will be demolished this week. The new toilets will be constructed and open by Easter.

Biomass warms Dartmoor Visitors

Visitors to the National Park Visitor Centre in Princetown are now being kept warm by a new biomass boiler, burning Dartmoor wood.

The recently installed 180kW Herz biomass boiler at Dartmoor National Park Authority's High Moorland Office in Princetown provides heat and hot water for the Visitor Centre as well as the offices of the National Park Authority and Duchy of Cornwall.
