East Devon District Council to explore options for new HQ

Options for a new headquarters at Honiton or Cranbrook are to be put under the microscope following unanimous agreement from EDDC’s Cabinet on Wednesday 17 July that staying at Knowle is not a viable option.

Council Leader Paul Diviani says: “We looked long and hard at all the options on the table including staying at Knowle. The simple matter of fact is that our current offices are a huge drain on resources - as well as the financial considerations, the buildings are just not fit for purpose.

“We also considered in detail a number of options for demolishing the current...

A GP from Devon has urged people to stay cool in the hot weather and to look after elderly and vulnerable friends and neighbours as the Met Office today raised the heatwave level for Devon up to category three.

This means there is a 90 per cent probability of heatwave conditions between 0900 on Thursday and 2100 on Friday in Devon.

Recent high temperatures across Devon are set to continue into next week and with most schools breaking up for the summer tomorrow many local people and those who travel from afar are likely to flock to Devon’s beaches to enjoy the sunshine....

High quality teaching and exemplary attitudes to learning at successful city school

Pupils at a successful Exeter primary school make rapid progress because of top quality teaching and highly positive attitudes to learning, according to education inspectors.

“The school has successfully established a trend of improving attainment since its previous inspection,” they say.

“There is a very strong learning ethos and pupils want to achieve well. Attainment is rising and is on track to rise further....

Met Office raises heatwave warning for South West to level 3

The Met Office has issued a revised heatwave warning for the South West, raising the level from two to three, meaning action is required.

Where a level two heat health grading should prompt an alert and readiness for action, a level three warning requires social and healthcare services to target specific actions at high-risk groups.

The Met Office forecasts a 90% probability of heatwave conditions on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July in the region.

Temperatures in Exeter are expected to reach 26 or 27 degrees once again and other parts of the region may see the mercury...

Spitfires' first season flying by!

The Exeter Spitfires are now past the half way point in their first season in the South West Baseball League. It has been an excellent inaugural season so far for the club in a number of ways.

The Spitfires have already gained their first ever win, something that was not necessarily expected against more experienced teams and, although they have suffered 18-15 and 19-9 losses to the Bristol Bats and a 9-0 loss to the Plymouth Mariners in their last three games, improvement was shown in a couple of those games as the players gain more experience.

Equally as important this...
