D&C Police staff face salary cuts

Devon and Cornwall Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) have been in negotiations with the three recognised trade unions in relation to a new grading and pay proposal for all police staff. This morning (Thursday 7 August), the Force and OPCC have sent a personal letter to all members of staff detailing the implications of the proposal, should it be accepted by union members. The people at Ashfords are taking up bee keeping in a bid to help the national initiative to protect bees and boost their population

As part of Ashfords' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, it is hoped the new Ashfords' bee colony will thrive, and help pollinate flowers and shrubs in the area around the Sowton Industrial Estate.

Dartmoor National Park scenery goes wireless

Two major projects to bury overhead power cables and enhance the landscape of the Dartmoor National Park have been completed in a joint project between Western Power Distribution, the South West Protected Landscapes Forum, and Dartmoor National Park Authority.

The two schemes on Holne Moor and Walkhampton Common have removed nearly 6km of overhead lines between them from open moorland.

Ruptured gas main closes Longbrook Street

A major gas leak has closed part of Exeter city centre.

Properties in Longbrook Street have been evacuated and the road has been closed.

Fire crews from Exeter have confirmed a ruptured gas main on the corner of Longbrook Street.

A spokesman said: “A 100 metre cordon has been set up and the road has been closed. All the properties within the one hundred metre cordon have now been evacuated.

Devon Community Foundation is delighted to announce that its Summer Grant Round is open with £125,000 available for Community Projects across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay helping to build thriving communities.
