Rick and Jeanette Wills narrowly escaped being poisoned by the fumes from the gas fridge in their caravan. Rick Wills explains: “It was a chilly night so my wife and I shut all the windows before going to bed.

"We were awoken by the Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector at 2am. I couldn’t smell anything, so I took the alarm off the wall and put it under a pillow to stop the noise. As an afterthought I opened all the windows, including the skylight. When we woke in the morning we both felt awful.”

Concerns are mounting that the loss of the beds will leave elderly and vulnerable patients recovering from operations and other treatments isolated, as well as putting pressure on over stretched critical wards at district hospitals. Plans are underway for a new site for a proposed Park and Ride on the edge of Exeter.

Devon County Council is set to begin pre-application discussions on a new location for the Park and Ride at the A30 Alphington Interchange junction.
