East Devon’s Cotley Farm’s welcomed a baby reindeer to the herd in May this year.
It’s rare for baby reindeer to be born in this country – and to survive, as the survival rates are not high over the first few months. The last calf the farm are aware of being born in the Westcountry was in Cornwall in 2010.
Cotley’s owner Helen Bowker said, “It was a bit of a surprise all round to be honest. We hadn’t thought Spice was young enough to be in calf and she’d always been a bit tubby but we knew there was an outside chance. However, she had shown no signs of labour in the morning...
A Brothers Grimm spell has been cast over Killerton this Christmas.
For the first time, the National Trust property will be transformed into classic fairy tales with a festive twist from Saturday 19 November.
Each year, to celebrate the start of Christmas at Killerton, the staff step out of their day jobs and ‘get into character’ for the festive theme with a specially commissioned photoshoot. This year, the staff portrayed Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood. Visitors can then see scenes from the stories on display in the exhibition (although the staff will be back...
Join our second of Sarah Pepper's seasonal masterclasses. We'll each be making a garland base of about 1 meter using twigs and then a natural decoration of lovely hardy foliages, ribbon, cones, and dried botanicals. It’s a great decoration to hang outside above the front door instead of a wreath, on gates or indoors above a fireplace.
Class fee of £25, includes a glass of prosecco or mulled wine on arrival, all materials, use of tools, coffee and mince pies.
Enjoy appearances by Cotley Farm’s reindeer, carol singers and Elsa from Frozen. Elsa will be judging the Exeter bauble decorating competition, and children will get the chance to hang their bauble from one of our locally grown trees.
If you would like your child to have a chance to enter this competition, please contact us on cotleyfarm@gmail.com and we will send through the details.
The first 200 families to buy their trees from our Matford site that day will get a free child’s ticket for Dartmoor Zoo. Entry is free, but booking is essential
