Outdoor entertainment at Drogo this summer

This summer the croquet lawn at Castle Drogo will be the backdrop for some very special outdoor theatre and music. ‘Cider with Rosie’ from the novel by Laurie Lee will be performed by the Plough Community Theatre on Saturday 27 June, 7-9pm. The Castle Drogo Youth Panel has planned a free community open evening to celebrate Museums at Night on Friday 15 May. From 6pm until 9pm, the gates will be flung open for all local people to come up and enjoy spending time at the castle outside normal opening hours. The Youth Panel’s aim is for this to be a chilled out evening where visitors can stroll in the garden, relax on the lawns, listen to music and watch the sun go down. Saving Castle Drogo – Nothing is normal

Half-term fun at Castle Drogo

There’s lot’s going on at Castle Drogo this half-term – from following a nature trail to building a home for nature.

“Castle Drogo and the surrounding 700 acre estate is the perfect place to explore, get muddy, jump in a puddle and build a den,” says Visitor Services Assistant, April Braund.

Every day, from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 February, 11am-4pm, families can follow a nature trail through the grounds to discover more about the wildlife that lives around the castle. The trail costs £1.50 and includes a prize at the end.

On Friday 6 and Saturday 7 February 2015, from 11am to 3pm, there will be a volunteering open day at Castle Drogo.

The year ahead promises to be a busy one at the castle. From 9 March, the huge five foot wide front door opens to visitors as phase three of the exciting renovation project gets underway. This is the most exciting time in the history of Castle Drogo since its initial construction.
