On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September, from 11am to 5pm, Castle Drogo will be holding an Edwardian country fair. There will lots of fun for all the family including traditional games such as coconut shy and skittles, the Dartmoor ranger team will be demonstrating time-honoured rural skills such as hurdle making and, of course, no fair would be complete without swing boats and a Punch and Judy show. Meet the builders day at Castle Drogo

Visitors to Castle Drogo will get the opportunity to learn more about the ongoing building work to make building water tight on 27 May.

In 2013 one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the National Trust began at Castle Drogo.

The castle has suffered major structural problems ever since completion which has resulted in serious leaks and water penetration throughout the building. First World War memorial room reopens at Castle Drogo

The team of staff and volunteers at Castle Drogo are pleased to re-open to the public the memorial room dedicated to Adrian Drewe, Julius and Francis Drewe’s eldest son and heir who was killed during the First World War.

The contents of the room were put in storage in December 2012 as part of the ongoing building project to make Castle Drogo watertight. The window was taken out to be refurbished and it is the first of 913 windows to be put back in situ.

Staff and members of a newly formed youth panel are thrilled that their plan for a ‘Museums at Night’ event at Castle Drogo has been successfully short listed. The race is now on as the public vote opens to win mixed media artist and musician Fred Deakin to host the after-hours event in May 2014, at which local young people will be invited to experience Castle Drogo as never before.

The Castle Drogo youth panel loved Fred Deakin's interactive game show/party idea and, together with staff, worked up a proposal to turn the castle and grounds into a celebration of traditional games...

Dartmoor youth theatre relives the First World War

With the centenary of the First World War around the corner, Dartmoor’s young people have been delving into Devon’s past. ‘Road to Nowhere’ is a new drama devised by MED Theatre’s Young Company and explores the impact the First World War had on Dartmoor and its communities.

When a nation is called to war, two young tin miners chose separate paths; while one friend faces the front line, another faces internment at Dartmoor prison and accusations of cowardice. Meanwhile Castle Drogo stands deserted and incomplete as the stone masons down their tools and head for the front line....

Volunteers needed to defend Devon's Castle Drogo

This year is the most exciting time in the history of Castle Drogo since its initial construction and promises to be a busy one once its huge five-foot-wide front door opens to visitors on 9th March.

Since receiving funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Interreg - a European grant - work has started on a five-year major building project to save this iconic place from the onslaught of an army of wind and rain.
