It was exciting to hear that the great and the good ventured up to London recently to see the launch of Exeter’s Triple Crown status on Bill Boards and in Underground Stations, maximising Exeter’s profile to London businesses who may be contemplating doing business with the region or relocating to this beautiful area of ours. Thomas Cook announces 2,500 jobs to go in effort to revive profitability

As part of its ongoing Business Transformation, Thomas Cook Group plc has announced that it has began a consultation process to restructure its UK business, which would see the Group's UK workforce reduced by 2,500 full-time roles. Job losses would mostly be from back-office functions and its retail network, including some store closures. However it has not yet been revealed which stores are to close.

The Group currently employs 15,500 across the UK & Ireland. The cost benefit of these changes, and the costs of achieving them, have already been included in the cost-out numbers...

Special Event marks National Apprenticeship Week 11-15 March

Devon County Council is calling on small and medium-sized businesses to think about the benefits of offering an apprenticeship.

The Council is organising a special event at Sandy Park in Exeter on Tuesday 12 March to bring young people and potential employers together.

Businesses are being encouraged to sign up to the event to see how they could get involved and maybe find a suitable apprentice for their organisation.

The day starts with a Business Breakfast between 8-9am for those considering taking on apprentices to find out more information.

Devon-based Gregory Distribution announces purchase of Philson Haulage

Gregory Distribution (Holdings) Ltd, the parent company of Gregory Distribution Ltd, has purchased Philson Haulage Ltd from its owners, Phil and Sonia Dickinson for an undisclosed sum.

Philson Haulage is a southern-based transport and distribution business with a turnover of around £7 million and employs 56 people at its base in Chichester. It was founded in 1995 by Phil and Sonia and has successfully developed a strong reputation for service and reliability within the fresh produce distribution sector during the past 17 years.
