The Nags Head Bridge near Cullompton will be closed from 7-18 March for essential safety works.
‘Road restraint’ improvement works will be carried out on the B3181 bridge and follows concerns that some drivers have not been negotiating the bend on the east side of the bridge safely.
The work will include removing damaged timber fencing and installing ‘trief’ kerbs in front of an existing retaining wall. This will minimise the risk of vehicles leaving the carriageway.

Essential work is to be carried out to the canal bridges on Bridge Road in Exeter.
On Monday 10 August and Tuesday 11 August, inspections and maintenance work will be undertaken on the swing bridge. Contraflow arrangements will be in place, with all traffic using the bascule bridge.
From Wednesday 12 August to Monday 17 August, the contraflow will run on the swing bridge, as the timber joint between the bascule bridge and the road will be replaced and upgraded with a reinforced concrete and stainless steel structure.
A community celebration will be held on Saturday 18 July to mark the opening of the new bridge over the A38 at Heathfield and the Stover Way multi-use trail.
The route, which has been developed over the past nine months, links Bovey Tracey to Jetty Marsh Road in Newton Abbot, crossing over the A38 at Heathfield and running alongside the Stover Canal.

Overnight closures on the A38 at Heathfield are due to start from the evening of Monday 27 April to enable a new bridge to be lifted into place. Work has been progressing well on the scheme during the winter - piling work and foundations of the structure will be completed shortly, and the 38 metre main span, along with the east side approach ramps, will now be craned into position during the overnight closures. A Mid Devon bridge which was destroyed in floods in late 2012 has been reinstated.
The original Waterstave Bridge, near Bradninch, which was built in the nineteenth century, was partially swept away following heavy rainfall and flooding on 21 November 2012. The extent of the damage meant that the remainder of the Grade Two Listed bridge was irreparable and unsafe, and was subsequently de-listed and demolished.
