A new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the M5 at Exeter has successfully been lifted into place over the weekend.

The 60-metre span Tithebarn Lane bridge was positioned alongside the existing overbridge, just north of Junction 29 of the motorway, overnight on Saturday (18 November) evening. It took 3.5 hours to fully rig the 750 tonne crane and the bridge lift started at 12:30am. The M5 was closed during the lifting operation, but re-opened three hours ahead of schedule on Sunday morning. Tithebarn Lane closed ahead of new M5 bridge installation

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge is due to be installed over the M5 motorway at Exeter, just north of Junction 29, next week. The structure, which will be next to the existing overbridge at Tithebarn Lane, is expected to be lifted in overnight on Saturday 18 November. To enable the lift to take place, the M5 will need to be closed between Junction 28 and 29, from 8pm to 8am. Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Development and Waste, said: “It’s important that infrastructure for sustainable travel is in place ahead of new homes being developed...

A special ceremony has been held to celebrate completion of the recent improvements to the Sandy Park junction in Exeter.

The £2.5 million junction was opened ahead of schedule in April.

To mark its completion, Devon County Council chairman Ray Radford unveiled a plaque at the site today (Friday 30 June) and also took the opportunity to congratulate the Exeter Chiefs on their recent Aviva Premiership title triumph.

The upgraded layout has provided a signalised junction that now allows right turns in and out of the site, improving access to the Sandy Park Stadium and...

Exeter Quay footbridge reopens

The Mallison footbridge at Exeter Quay has re-opened to pedestrians and cyclists following temporary repairs to the structure.

Exeter City Council was forced to close the bridge earlier in the month because of safety concerns after an inspection revealed some rotten timbers.

The bridge carries pedestrians and cyclists over a leat beside the River Exe, from nearby Exeter Antiques Centre on the Quay to Samuel Jones Smoke & Ale House on the opposite bank.

The Council will look at a permanent replacement as part of a potential enhancement to the riverside walk....
