Did you know that quitting smoking is the most important thing you can do for your baby?

If you are pregnant and smoke yourself, or live with someone who smokes around you, your baby is exposed to a number of dangerous chemicals.

Your baby may receive a restriction in the amount of oxygen it needs, causing its heart to have to beat harder. Smoking can cause a greater risk of miscarriage and still birth and a lower birth weight.

After they are born, your baby is more at risk of ear infections and asthma. Plus they are more likely to become a smoker themselves....

Amid much press furore, the Duchess of Cambridge has now left King Edward VII hospital in central London after several days of treatment for acute morning sickness - hyperemesis gravidarum - since Monday.

St James's Palace said in a statement that she was now heading to Kensington Palace for a period of rest.

Diary Of A Dad To Be: Our tricky 20-week scan

It was meant to be straight forward. We had booked in for our 20-week scan and had both agreed that we wanted to know the sex of our baby.

My partner was keen to find out so that she could plan the nursery’s colour scheme and I’m, well, just impatient.

If the baby was a boy, we’d already decided we were going to call him Harry but the jury was out on a girl’s name.

This afternoon the couple's own website crashed due the amount of traffic the announcement generated.

A statemnent posted earlier said: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of...

NEW blog: Diary of a first time father-to-be

In my 48 years on this planet, I have been, amongst other things, a speedway rider, a band member, a journalist and now, I am about to be a Dad. For the first time.

I’ve left it a bit late, I suppose, but there just seemed so many other things to do and kids, I reasoned, would get in the way.

I was the one who tutted loudly when gooey (and baggy) eyed parents had the audacity to bring their newborns onto the plane I was boarding through fear it would ruin the start of my holiday.

I also have to admit to being indifferent to the steady...

Research by the Institute for Social and Economic Research and the University of Essex has found that mums-to-be who work through their pregnancy are increasing the chances of giving birth to smaller babies. Women who worked to the eighth month of pregnancy risked giving birth to babies half a pound lighter – an equivalent detriment to smoking in pregnancy.

The research opens important policy questions on the health implications for working pregnant mothers and their unborn children.

The researchers identified 1,339 children whose mothers were part of the British Household...
