Local mum-trepreneur Laura Skilton celebrates her baby swim school business going national having already helped more than 5,000 children in Devon and Hampshire learn to swim since launching seven years ago.

Overjoyed or overwhelmed? Free app gives new dads in Devon everything they need to know

An innovative new app is being launched across Devon on Monday 4 March 2019 to support new dads and their partners.

DadPad is an essential guide for new dads and has been co-produced with new fathers, the NHS and developed and built by Julian Bose from Inspire Cornwall CIC.

The project is jointly-funded by NHS England’s perinatal mental health development fund, Devon Partnership NHS Trust, Livewell Southwest CIC and NHS NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group.

The app is available to download now and is aimed at fathers-to-be and new fathers across Devon.

NICEF gives RD&E new ‘Baby Friendly’ seal of approval

The UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative team have given the RD&E’s Maternity and Neonatal services fresh accreditation after a three-day visit to interview parents and staff and review standards.

Both services have held the accolade for several years and recently invited UNICEF back to RD&E to review the care provided by the Trust to ensure that high standards are being maintained.

The assessment, held in late January, comes after Maternity first achieved the UNICEF ‘Baby Friendly’ standard in 2012 and Neonatal becoming the first neonatal unit in the country to achieve...

Exeter joins in national recognition of baby loss

On Saturday 14th April 2018 at 1pm, Exeter Cathedral will hold the first in a set of national remembrance services for people who have experienced baby loss, whether during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy.

Nearly 20 services will be held around the UK, allowing bereaved parents, families and friends to join together in acknowledging and remembering babies that have gone too soon.

The services are organised by The Mariposa Trust, which held its first service at Exeter Cathedral in 2012, and celebrated its 100th service at the end of 2017 in Westminster, London.

£800,000 to develop life-saving heel-prick test for babies with diabetes

Exeter’s world-leading diabetes experts have been awarded more than £800,000 to develop a test that can identify babies with neonatal diabetes in the first few days of their lives.

The research is a collaboration between the University of Exeter Medical School and the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. The funding, from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) will help prevent babies with neonatal diabetes from developing life-threatening complications and related conditions, by getting them on the right treatment pathway as early as possible.

New 'Tinder style' friendship app for mums

Mush is a new free app that connects mums with other local, like-minded mums and generates friendships.

It’s mission is to make the lives of mums more sociable and fun, enabling meet-ups in real life with other mums who can support each other.
