Community nurses earn Queen's Nurse title

Two senior community nurses who oversee the Exeter area have been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse.

Sarah Garnsworthy and Jane Watson are both senior nurses for community nursing for the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.

They were given their new title by The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) at its autumn awards ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London.

The title reflects a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership in community nursing.

Heart of Devon celebrates record awards win

Tourism businesses in Exeter and the Heart of Devon enjoyed a record haul of trophies coming top in 10 of the 18 awards categories and scooping 22 accolades in all, at the Visit Devon Awards 2014.

The awards were hosted by Radio Devon’s Judi Spiers at The Palazzo at Highbullen Hotel Golf and Country Club, Umberleigh, and cover the whole county.

Altogether, Exeter and the Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership members collected 10 Gold awards, along with the prestigious Winner of Winners Award, won by the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, in Honiton.

River Cottage scoops industry award

River Cottage Cookery School in Axminster, Devon has beaten dozens of other cookery schools from across the nation to win the accolade of Best Large Recreational Cookery School at the British Cookery School Awards.

Results were announced on Monday 17 November at the awards ceremony held at Porchester Hall in London. The event was hosted by head judge and BBC Radio 2’s food and drink broadcaster Nigel Barden.

Quickes' consistent quality leads to triple triumph

Following the World Cheese Awards on Friday - leading traditional clothbound Cheddar producer, Quickes, is celebrating winning three gold medals for their Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage Cheddars.

The latest achievements followed an intensive day’s judging that took place at Olympia London alongside 2014’s Good Food Show. There were more than 2,700 entries from all around the globe including cheese from Brazil and New Zealand. A panel of almost 250 cheese experts took part in the process of grading the cheeses and awarding medals accordingly.

Devon holiday park wins tourism award

A Devon holiday park with its own private beach has won a top tourism award for providing the best family experience and customer service.

Sites across Somerset, Dorset and Devon were shortlisted for the regional 2014 Hoseasons ‘Family Fun’ Diamond Award.

Devon County Council is delighted to announce that one of it's most popular visitor destinations, Stover Country Park, is a finalist in this years Devon Tourism Awards.

The park and nature reserve is up for either a bronze, silver or gold in the Access & Inclusivity Award category.

National recognition for council team

East Devon District Council’s Revenues and Benefits team have received national recognition with two awards from a professional association.

The team are responsible for collecting council tax and for processing claims for council tax support, housing benefit and other assistance for people who may be struggling to pay their civic bills. Their work involves a great deal of contact with customers, many of whom are experiencing difficulty in making ends meet and so need to be treated with respect and sensitivity by council staff.

Exeter pensioner in line for national award

A volunteer cook from Exeter who has dedicated the past 17 years of her life to catering for people affected by brain injury is to be honoured at a national awards ceremony.

Margaret Bird, 82, from Silverton village, on the outskirts of Exeter, will compete against only two other nominees from across the UK for The Stephen McAleese Outstanding Contribution to Headway Award, which will be presented at an annual awards ceremony organised by Headway – the brain injury association.

Exeter renewable expert SunGift Energy has collected a top national award, after being named the UK’s number one installer of solar panels.

The renewable energy specialist, which is based on Christow Road, Marsh Barton Industrial Estate, Exeter, picked up the Solar Power Portal Installer of the Year Award at a glittering ceremony, which was held at Birmingham’s NEC.
