The RSPCA have expressed concerns after more dead birds have been washed up on beaches in Devon and Cornwall.

There have been reports of birds being washed up at Wembury and Heybrook Bay in Devon as well as Port Wrinkle and Whitsand in Cornwall. On Saturday, the RSPCA said that for all the affected birds found washed up on land, it was likely "more are dying out in the Channel".

Dog walkers have been told to keep their pets away after more than 100 birds were found dead on one section of beach between Downderry and Seaton on Sunday morning.

Dead and alive birds were...

Manage Your Time, or Others Will Do It For You!

I’ll never forget an important time management lesson I learned in a seminar many years ago . . . especially how the instructor illustrated the point.

“Okay, time for a quiz,” he said, as he pulled out a one-gallon wide-mouthed mason jar and set it on the desk in front of him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar.

When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, “Is the jar full?”

Everyone in the seminar said, “Yes.”

Then he said, “Really?” He reached under the...

Chiefs make headlines for their performance as silence is observed despite controversy

Off-field politics were duly put to one side and it was the rugby that was on the lips of everyone as they departed Sandy Park late on Saturday evening. Pre-match there had been plenty of debate as to the rights and wrongs of Exeter Chiefs staging a minute’s silence in memory of the late Baroness Thatcher. As it turned out, the mark of respect went off without a hitch and it was the display of Rob Baxter’s side in sinking visiting London Irish that was making the real headlines. The Chiefs kept alive their hopes of competing in next season’s Heineken Cup by producing a fourth Aviva...

Today (April 13) saw St David's churchyard getting a spring clean. Trees were lopped and cut back hard, hedges pruned, grass - and even primroses - strimmed. There were also a number of objects retrieved from the undergrowth, including some night storage heaters, cast iron pipe and a heap of discarded bottles and cans. This outbreak of seasonal community activism was hosted and organised by the Vicar, Revd Canon Tom Honey. "St David's churchyard comes under the care of Exeter City Council, but in a time of constrained budgets there is a limited amount that the Council can do...
