RAMM has launched a new web app linking the stunning paintings of the Dartmoor landscape by FJ Widgery with the scenes that they portray. Many of these paintings can be seen in the current exhibition Masters of the Moor.

The app will help smartphone and tablet users explore the moor, find the scenes portrayed in the paintings and share their thoughts and images of Dartmoor through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The web app can be found at http://www.mastersofthemoor.org.uk

Funded by Arts Council England, the app is web based so there’s no need to download it....

Ofsted findings highlight unacceptable practice says Devon County Council

“Practice at the home is unacceptable,” says Devon County Council following an Ofsted report, yet to be published, that is expected to describe services at one of its children’s facilities as inadequate.

Steps have already been taken to address Ofsted’s concerns within the home at Rifford Road, Exeter, and ‘moving on’ plans for the three young residents are being worked on.

New management has been brought in from another of the Council’s children’s homes, rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.

Prior to the inspection, Barnardos had been commissioned to conduct a thorough review of...

Ben Bradshaw MP on the importance of early dementia diagnosis

More than half of all dementia sufferers in the South West are undiagnosed, with rates of diagnosis being as low as 35% in rural Devon.

As someone who cared for my Mother who had dementia when I was a teenager, I am acutely aware of the importance in diagnosing the disease early.

Early diagnosis means the patient can get the treatment he or she needs and the family or carers support in a situation which can be very tough and isolating.

Late diagnosis is a particular problem for a region like ours with a large elderly population and retired people who may live a long...

Police operation helps to identify pit bull-type dogs sold by convicted breeders

Operation Doorstop Two was set up following the arrest of Stephen and Tracey Tewkesbury in relation to the selling of Pit Bull-type dogs, for which they have since been convicted. The operation has now concluded and a total of 42 addresses have been visited, which has resulted in 26 dogs have being seized (2 from the Exeter area); this excludes the three seized from Mr and Mrs Tewkesbury.

All the dogs with the exception of one, which was put to sleep at the...

City huff and puff but can't blow Rangers' defence down

Report: Exeter City 0 QPR 2

Exeter City fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The game got off to an unfortunate start for Exeter, when Jermaine Jenas saw his shot deflected in by Charlie Austin in the second minute.

Danny Simpson, another summer signing for the Hoops, doubled the lead for Rangers with a smart run up the wing from the right-back position.

For all City’s huffing and puffing – and going close to reducing the arrears – it was the visitors that secured passage to the...
