Lloyd's Kitchen's Business Event

Members of the local business community were welcomed with wine and canapés at the newly refurbished Lloyd’s Kitchen based in the heart of the City. The event celebrated the re-brand and showcased the new dinner menu as the restaurant now opens for Friday and Saturday evenings. Guests sampled a tasting menu which included the new business express lunches and a charity raffle was held to raise monies for ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund).

Retailer John Lewis is urging final year students and graduates not to miss the deadline for its 2014 graduate scheme. The scheme closes to applications on 1st December 2013.

The graduate scheme offers jobs in one of five specialities; Retail Management, Buying, Merchandising, Corporate Finance and a brand new Technology Scheme.

Gold for the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink at the Devon Tourism Awards

The Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink has won gold in the Tourism Event of the Year category of the 2013 Devon Tourism Awards.

After the awards ceremony, which was held in Torquay last week, Michael Caines MBE, tweeted: “Great result after 10 years, a great achievement for all involved!”

This year saw stiff competition with an increase to over 100 entries from the cream of the Devon tourism industry, with 44 businesses selected as finalists, each winning either Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended awards.

Southgate hosts tea parties for local elderly people

The Mercure Southgate Hotel Exeter is hosting a series of afternoon tea parties for older people working in partnership with the national charity Contact The Elderly. The get-togethers aim to combat loneliness and isolation among older people.

The Hotel has already hosted 2 tea parties and plans to hold them regularly in the future. Local developers Barratt homes are holding a resident’s consultation meeting today on plans to build 170 new homes on a site that was refused planning permission last year. The developers hope to build the new homes in between Monkerton and Pinhoe and will take views from local residents on the plans in a meeting in Hall Church in Pinhoe between 1pm and 8pm today. Jack's Fund tribute gig spawns charity single

Hundreds of people turned out in Market Harborough, Leicestershire on Saturday at a charity gig to raise funds for Jack Rigby, the son of murdered soldier Lee Rigby. Despite freezing temperatures, large crowds donated to watch acts including X Factor's Giles Potter, Britain's Got Talent's Michael Collings and headliners Remedy Sounds and Dretonio.

Stagecoach donates £10,000 to Haiyan appeal

The Stagecoach transport group has donated £10,000 to help relief efforts in the Philippines.

The transport group has made the donation to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Stagecoach has also agreed to match up to £40,000 of funding raised by its employees.

The group employs 35,000 bus and rail employees in both the UK and North America.
