If you've never heard of a Medlar before you're probably not alone. They're not the type of fruit you're likely to find on a supermarket shelf and to be honest they don't taste great raw but they make delicious, jellies, chutneys, desserts, even wine. However even finding the jelly in the shops can be rare, so you really do benefit from making it yourself.

A member of the rose family they resemble a large, flat rosehip but with a lovely russet skin which translates into a beautiful bronze coloured preserve. Nigel Slater is amongst those who relish the...

Exeter City Police have warned that scammers who use shoddy jewellery to cheat people out of cash have arrived in the area.

The scam typically sees scammers flag down motorists by the side of the road beside supposedly broken down cars claiming to need cash for fuel.

Often jewellery is offered as security against for a loan of the money with claims that the value outweighs the money lent.

But in most cases the jewellery turns out to be worthless and sees the victims holding shoddy jewellery in place of their money.

Scoring your first try for your club is always a special mention, but Dave Lewis admitted his celebrations were somewhat curtailed by the fact Exeter Chiefs slipped to a last-gasp defeat at Aviva Premiership rivals London Wasps.

With just 70 seconds played at Adams Park on Sunday, the scrum-half spotted a gap in the home defensive line before scampering under the sticks to give his side a dream start.

The Chiefs built on that early score and by half-time were 13-3 to the good thanks to further kicks from fly-half Henry Slade, who himself was making his first-ever start in...
